Organizations
I’m the type of person who enjoys keeping busy and working in a fast-paced environment. Along with taking a full schedule of classes, I’m heavily involved in two organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Leadership Involvement Team (LIT)
The Leadership Involvement Team in each residence hall is the organization for student involvement in activities and airing concerns. From sponsoring hall programs, to writing newsletters to planning engaging activities for residents to participate in, LIT is focused on providing an enjoyable living environment for all students.
I was humbled and honored to be elected as my residence hall’s Co-Event Planner and Residents Hall Association (RHA) Representative. As an event planner, I helped plan and organize monthly social events for both Benson and Cambridge residence halls. Gatherings included themed events that related to holidays or seasons as well as one sustainable/eco-friendly event. These events encouraged residents to socialize and learn more about their neighbors.
As an RHA representative, I attended RHA-specific meetings on top of weekly LIT meetings where I would present a report, which covered both qualitative and quantitative metrics about past events as well as any program updates relating to LIT.
Through both positions, I gained unbeatable leadership, communication and organizational skills.
ULEAD
One of the most exciting times of the school year is moving into your residence halls. When I discovered ULEAD—a three-day program aimed to help first-year students learn more about their new home and feel welcome—I knew I wanted to join to further expand my leadership and communication skills. On top of that, I was excited to help make move-in day extra special and memorable for new residents.
The three main components of ULEAD are:
• LEAD 101
• Campus comfort and knowledge of creating a collegiate involvement plan
• Learning about the campus and community governance structure
As a ULEAD Representative, I helped answer any question that first-year students or parents had, move residents into their dorms and worked with other representatives to ensure move-in day was nothing short of smooth-sailing.
