Warhawk Football Claims 38th WIAC Title

The University of Wisconsin Whitewater football team beat UW-La Crosse on November 6th to claim its 38th WIAC regular season title in program history. The Warhawks beat the Eagles 13 to 7 to go to 9 and 0 on the season and 6 and 0 in conference. Just about 12,000 people packed “The Perk” to cheer on their Warhawks. Perkins Stadium continues to be a game changer and a true home field advantage. The Warhawks have won 26 straight at home dating back to 2017 and have not lost to La Crosse since 2004.

The six time National Champion Warhawk football team will receive the automatic bid into the NCAA playoffs. The Warhawks will look to get back to the championship game after a deep playoff run in 2019. Head Coach Kevin Bullis preaches to his players one game, one day, and one practice at a time.

The Warhawks have been ranked in the top three all season below Division three powerhouses Mary Hardin Baylor and North Central. Whitewater beat Mary Hardin Baylor on the road to the title game where they lost to North Central in 2019. Senior quarterback Max Meylor led the Warhawks on that run and has been on a mission this season to get them back to that spot.

The Warhawks weren’t expected to make a run last season, but this time around people have been taken notice. The 2021 team looks even better than they did last season because many star players returned and they are able to dominate the game in all three phases of the game. Seniors not only on offense like Alex Peete and Ryan Wisniewski, but on defense with captains Makenzie Balagnanyi and Mark McGrath have the Warhawks looking as good as ever.

The Warhawks have had 17 playoff appearances and hold a 56 and 11 record in the NCAA tournament in program history. Under current Head Coach Kevin Bullis, they have gone to the postseason five times, including this year, with a record of 12 and 4. Former Head Coach Lance Leipold won 6 national championships, and now it’s the only thing left for Kevin Bullis to accomplish in his tenure.
