Seasonal Stickers

I wanted to talk about seasonal stickers because as I am writing this it is Valentine’s Day.

Stickers and accessories for your planner can end up breaking the bank if you go hog wild right away. They are all fun and exciting, but I would suggest starting small to see what your style is first. When I first started planning I bought the MAMBI Seasonal Value Pack. It was a great first sticker pack investment because it let me try all different types of stickers in my planner all while not killing my college student income.

Originally MAMBI had four value pack sticker books, but now they have expanded to 18. I will cover more of them later on, but the seasonal one is the most versatile. It is 30 sticker sheets for only $20. If you use a 40 percent off coupon at Michael’s, which they have quite regularly, it will be even cheaper.

Most of you are probably screaming “LIZ $20 FOR STICKERS?!?” To tell you the truth that is quite cheap for stickers. If you were to go to Etsy to find a similar product, one they don’t normally sell 30 page kits and two they are closer to $20 for a one week kit alone. Now, I’m not bashing Etsy because I have bought form there and the creators on there are quite amazing, but start with a value pack — it’s so much cheaper.

The seasonal value pack is just what the name implies, stickers for every season. All of their stickers are printed on a high quality matte paper and there is some decoration sheets that are on clear paper. With them being on matte it makes it easy for beginners because they can be written on with pretty much any pen and won’t smudge or smear. Below are the pages that come inside the value pack. They even have a page in the back for birthdays and another for weather.

They come with functional stickers (Checklists, icons, headers for lists, and a few “half boxes”), full box decorative stickers which take up the size of a whole box in a daily column for a vertical Happy Planner, and decoration sheets including a bucket list for each season. These stickers are made to fit the Happy Planner Classic, but can be used in any planner (even personal ones).

With all of this in mind, if you want to try stickers in your planner I would suggest this pack first!

5 Easy Things To Track In Your Planner

IMG_4952

Now that you have aquired a beautiful planner, what should you do with it? Or maybe you have been using planners for a long time, but find yourself in a rut of not using it as you’d like.

Here are 5 main predictable things I feel that planners are very useful to track.

1. Events

This is pretty self explanatory, but no one likes when your forget their birthday or anniversary. Be sure you don’t miss the company socials either– become the life of the party not the one who doesn’t show up.

2. Deadlines

I cannot stress enough how keeping deadlines in a planner has helped me, especially as a student. We all lead crazy and hectic lives and sometimes the little things get forgotten in the shuffle. By putting these in your monthly and weekly views you will never miss a deadline again. Big projects, homework assignments, important paperwork — you’ll be on top of it all.

3. Water/ Meals

8 glass of water a day? Yeah, most of us NEVER complete that. Not only will tracking water lead a healthy lifestyle because you will feel better when you drink the proper amount, it also is something fun to cross off the everyday to-do list.

Meals are also great to track to either preplan groceries/ budgets, but also to see what you are eating in the course of a week.

4. Work/Kid(s) Schedules

Trying to keep track of a ever changing work schedule? Or a kid who is in school and three extra curricular activities? Then keeping it all in a planner is perfect for you. Busy schedules lend themselves to conflicts once in a while. If you plan it all out, you will know ahead of time and can arrange something before it becomes a problem. And no one likes the person who is late.

5. Appointments

Last, but not least — appointments. With crazy schedules we sometimes forget that we made a dentist or doctor’s appointment three months ago and somehow it’s next Wednesday at 11:30 AM. Planners are great for tracking the non-daily activities because they remind you of what to expect for the day that’s different from the rest.

With these 5 things in mind, I hope your planning can become more streamlined and helpful in your everyday life!

Planning 101 – 3 Big Tips for Starters

Welcome to It’s All About The Paper!

For this first post, I wanted to go over some basic tips for planning! If you are just starting out, these are the top three things to think about to get you started.

1. Find a planner.

This may sound stupid, but it honestly becomes one of the hardest parts of starting to use a planner– finding one you like. Find out what works for you. Do you like lists? Try a vertical planner. Do you like journaling or have big handwriting? Try a horizontal planner.

Good vertical planners on a budget are the Happy Planner and the Recollections planner, which are both found at Michaels. If you buy from Michaels, sign up for the rewards program because they always have good coupons. Also, both these companies offer horizontal planners, but there are less options. Other cheaper horizontal planners can be found at a Target or any other place that sells office supplies. If you don’t like anything that a store sells, look on Pinterest and Google for printable. I really like Scattered Squirrel ‘s printable planner pages.

*Note: Recollections has two kinds. One you can buy the various inserts you want like calendar, meal planner, budget — that all assemble into a binder. Or they just came out with new spiral bound planners as well.)

Also, find what SIZE works for you. I prefer the Happy Planner Classic size because it is a bit smaller than a sheet of paper, but not so small I can’t fit anything in it. Mini planners, or also known as personal planners, are great for throwing in purses or small areas on the go. If you have large handwriting or a lot to keep track of, a 8.5 by 11/ Legal Letter size might be better for you.

If you are not sure what kind you like do the research, because there are countless horror stories about people who hated the planners they spent upwards of $80 on. Start cheap and establish a system then move up. Also, don’t go crazy and buy a bunch of washi tape and stickers quite yet. Start with just the planner.

2. Find your favorite writing utensil.

Whether a pen, pencil, or anything else– find what you like to write with. This will make your experience a lot more enjoyable. I am not sponsored to say this, but I would suggest to try Staedler pens in the 0.3mm.
They are a bit more   expensive, but they write smoothly and come in a variety of colors (they are a mix between a pen and a marker).

If you want to start small, try a regular ball-point pen or a Paper Mate Flair. However, be aware of possible bleeding and shadowing through a planner page with the Flairs.

3. Pick a day you plan every week.

For planning to work, consistency is key. You find that you will be very excited for about a week or two and then you’ll forget for one day, then two, and soon you never look at it again. Make it a point to choose a day to plan for the week, because it will make you more consistent and on track to a more organized life. For me I try to make it every Saturday or Sunday. As a student this is helpful because it gives me a chance to look at what’s coming for the next week, but also allows for events to be added.

Ultimately you know yourself best, but don’t be afraid to experiment a bit and try new things.
