New Digs

Our plants have outgrown the confined spaces of their little rock-flavored cotton candy housing and are ready to let loose their roots! However, in order to set them up for success, we’re going to want to ensure their new home is as ideal a habitat as possible. This means giving them the right nutrients (referred to as “noots” from here on out) mixed into a solution that is the right PH level (acidity level).

The Noot’s. $20 for the bundle at PowerGrowSystems.com

We combine these three bags into our gallon of distilled water in measured increments. for arugula, I’ve read suggestions of maintaining a PH level between 5.6 and 6.2 . From what I gather the acidity level effects how noots are absorbed by the plant. A PH level too high will mean the plant can’t absorb the noots as well, and a PH level too low will cause something called “nutrient burn”.

We fill the jar up with noot solution until the water level reaches a little be higher than the bottom of the net cup we will be using. I take the plant, rock wool and all, and place it into it’s net cup and plop it into it’s new home! For the finishing touch, I surround the base of the plant with these little stone looking things, which help block light from getting into the jar, as well as the rock wool. This helps to prevent the growth of unwanted fungus.
