Question: “What is SWOT analysis and why is it important in social media research?”

A SWOT analysis is an analysis of a brand’s, company’s or individual’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. We can apply this in social media research by applying each factor to the company’s social media approach. SWOTs are important in social media research because they demonstrate clearly to the social media professional what the company must work on and the ways in which they are succeeding. From there, a company can establish its goals for its social media, which is a broad statement that captures the overall focus for a social media initiative, according to Freberg.
