Catherine has no intentions of becoming Queen, despite her parents intentions. She wants to be a baker. But because the King of Hearts has his eye on Catherine, her parents demand that she marries him. While attending the King’s events, she meets Jest, the King’s joker. While becoming closer to Jest, she begins to fall in love with Jest and soon must choose between love and her parents wishes.
I absolutely loved this book. In the literature realm, turning classic fairy tails into prequels or sequels has been an on going trend. If you are a big fan of Alice in Wonderland, this is the book for you. This story follows the story of how the Queen of Hearts came to be. In Heartless, we get to see versions of our old favorite characters from Alice, such as The Mad Hatter, Cheshire the Cat, and so much more. This book is definitely one of my favorite books just because the story was always keeping me gripped, I am a fan of Alice in Wonderland, and I was always wanting more. While I was disappointed that this book is only a novel, I would really recommend for those who enjoyed the fairy tales that we all grew up with, to go to your nearest library/book store and give this book a try. While the beginning of the book is a little slow, it is definitely worth it in the end.
