In case you were curious about this week I will be breaking down banned cards and house rules its not going to be extremely long but I think its good information none the less.
So first off like most TCG games there are banned cards and Magic is no differnt its ban list and ways it chooses banned cards ever expands rather then trying to list it all here Ill proide a link to the official banlist from Wizards of the Coast.
Here is the said Link: https://magic.wizards.com/en/game-info/gameplay/rules-and-formats/banned-restricted
Many cards are banned for many reasons BUT there is an exception to this list, Its commonly called house rules! House rules are what players refer to as essentially the groups of players common rules. So say a card you really like is banned but only if its with a certain combo is is problematic, so you check with your group and they allow it. Then by the way house rules works that card in not banned anymore for that playgroup! It adds a lot to the variety in gameplay and it allows you to further customize the game of commander. Its a very in depth and interesting situation that allows for a very cool mixture of elements that then allows the group your playing with to change the game how you all see fit.
I recommend playing at home with the current pandemic anyways but this is typically at least for my group more fun as it lets us customize the experience even more! It also allows us to limit power levels so nobody makes crazy unfun overpowered decks.
And well that’s all i had planned this week! Next week I will try to talk about Pre cons more in depth and why if you thinking about diving into the world of commander the are the best entry point.
