This is the deck list I’ve been most excited to share as its my personal favorite deck that I’ve made. I’m going to explain what ninjas unique mechanic is right away so it saves us some time here!
So how many of you guessed it was called Ninjutsu? Its a simple mechanic but a very interesting one. Ninjutsu makes it so if a creature goes unblocked you can ninjutsu out a ninja in its place and have it do its damage and effect instead. Its a very cool mechanic but there are also not a lot of Ninjas in magic so we improvise in this deck list as you will all see soon. Also Ill touch on the mechanic called Surveil as well as that appears a few times in the list, Surveil lets look at the top (Insert Number Here) cards and put them back on top in any order OR if you don’t want the card to throw it into your graveyard instead. Now onto the decklist!
Our Commanding Ninja –
Yuriko is our commander as she not only combos with other Ninjas but she also has her own Ninjutsu herself which makes her one of the few commanders capable of cheating Commander Tax. All around she is a very good and consistently impactful commander.
Creatures –
1 Mana –
There are no 1 drop creature in this deck this time around!
2 mana –
The 2 drops in this deck are largely early game cards with use late game, Tetsuko makes not only a few of these cards unblockable but it allows for our small creatures to get through safety and then become a bigger Ninja if we have the mana.
3 Mana –
Here we have a large amount of early game ninjas and creatures that all do rather powerful effects, as you may notice about half are actually ninjas but don’t worry we have a way to fix that coming up
4 Mana –
4 Mana is where our creatures begin to get more powerful and we have several Mimic cards to use as Ninjas at our disposal some more powerful then others.
5 mana –
Our 5 mana creature our our solid creatures all around they are powerful in their own right but combined with other cards in the deck it gets really crazy and really fun really fast.
6 mana –
Our 6 mana creature although small are extremely powerful, like Ink-eyes is one of the best creatures in the entire deck. She is a crazy strong Ninja that we can even duplicate.
7 Mana –
Our only 7 mana creature and he is a rather powerful one, He stands alone as the big ninja that we drop to engage and do damage
Instants/Sorcerys –
Similar to most deck list this part wont highlight many cards image wise unless there are 3 or less in its category most of the time.
1 mana –
Yet again no 1 Mana cards
2 mana –
2Black X – Profane Command
1 Black 1 colorless – Go for the Throat
1 Blue 1 Colorless – Telling Time
1 Black 1 Colorless – Doom Blade
1 Blue 1 Black – Glimpse the Unthinkable
2 Blue – Mission Briefing
1 Black 1 Colorless – Ultimate Price
1 Blue 1 Colorless – Voyage’s End
1 Blue 1 Black X – Mind Grind
2 Black – Bile Blight
Lots of simple removal and card draws here to help thin out opponents battlefields and set up the deck to combo with Yuriko.
3 Mana –
2 Black 1 Colorless – Hero’s Downfall
2 Black 1 Colorless – Murder
1 Black 1 Blue 1 Colorless – Notion Rain
1 Black 2 Colorless – Vona’s Hunger
Mostly all removal here to deal with large enemy boards
4 Mana –
4 Split Blue/Black – Memory Plunder
2 Blue 2 Colorless – Whelming Wave
2 Blue 2 Colorless – Sleep
1 Blue 3 Colorless – Fact or Fiction
Rage to riches is a split card that has two separate cards on top of itself, this is in the deck not only for its usefulness but its mana costs is 11 total making this a bomb to enemy HP with Yuriko.
5 mana –
Two cards here that are both disrupters and large setbacks when they are played
6 mana –
Two extremely powerful cards in their own rights Stolen Identity can get out of hand extremely fast and is a worthwhile target for most creatures in the deck.
8 Mana –
Yet another setting up hand and such card
9 Mana –
Big Board wipe that can often win you the game
Artifacts –
Just the standard couple of mana rocks!
Planeswalkers –
3 planeswalkers of all the same name, Ashiok is the only planeswalker I p think fits the theme of the deck by not only creating cards to steal but making more creatures we can make Ninjas
Enchantments –
Remember how I said we had a way to make everything Ninjas well here we finally are
These two cards both make all our ccreature Ninjas allowing our entire deck to work in tandem.
Lands –
10 – Swamps
9 – Islands
Fetid Pools
River of Tears
Drowned Catacomb
Dimir Aqueduct
Temple of Deceit
Rogue’s Passage
Choked Estuary
Command Tower
Submerged Boneyard
Reliquary Tower
Sunken Hollow
Halimar Depths
Watery Grave
Dimir Guildgate
Creeping Tar Pit
And that concludes my favorite deck that I own! Im super excited to share this deck and hope it helps inspire some more unique and interesting deck ideas! I hope these deck lists are interesting for some of you so you can understand how some people build decks and how different they can be from one another.
Next week I plan to discuss power levels in MTG and what makes a power level and what exactly is one.
