The plan this week was to post a deck list but I changed my mind and instead wanted to talk about commander from a set standpoint.
By this I mean what to look for in new sets as a commander player and from the commander perspective about new sets.
So recently the set Timespiral Remastered released but we are not going to talk about it much as it is mostly a reprint set made to reprint cards that needed them. The big thing to talk about is the next Harry Potter themed set Strixhaven.
So as a commander player we want to scout out a few things. The first thing being obviously potential Commanders. Say you have a nice Red and White deck but your not happy with the Commander of the deck. Scouting a new set for potential new commanders. Scouting spoilers can be tough but there are a few sites that keep up to date and for me I use the site MythicSpoiler because they keep up to date and even translate cards that were not spoiled in native yet.
This is a good way to start making a deck as well because say a card really peaks your interests. You can immediately begin to start building around the cards even without owning them which is very very nice.
Strixhaven adds a lot of interesting cards to the mix and scouting out cards that not only work for your commander BUT also your color theme is key. Again this lets us start constructing cards and moving cards around its very useful as a whole. Long story short looking at spoilers is not only fun its also very beneficial as a whole. I highly recommend looking at them even if your not into commander because it is helpful in all formats.
Next week I will be posting that tribal deck list I mentioned last week that revolves around ninjas. I just wanted to post this small update about spoilers as Strixhaven is getting more and more every day and I felt it a good idea to mention it even to those who don’t yet play so they get an idea of what a deckbuilding mindset is like.
