UDL: Executive Functioning
Are your students struggling to meet deadlines, show up to class, or stay focused on the task at hand? The reason could be a lack of Executive Functioning (EF)–the brain’s management system for planning, focusing, organizing, and regulating emotions. It’s a skill that everyone has to varying degrees. Executive Functioning is especially challenging for those with autism, a traumatic brain injury, ADHD, dyslexia, depression, stereotype threat, and even stress. In this session, learn how to apply UDL guidelines focused on EF in your course to help students be successful in class and beyond.
Session Outcomes
- Describe how executive functioning affects students’ learning and participation in college courses.
- Identify UDL strategies that support students’ emotional capacity, knowledge building, and strategy development.
- Develop a plan to add or improve one UDL strategy that supports executive functioning in their course.
