UDL and Assessment Puzzle Toolkit

When

September 30, 2026
2:00 pm - 2:45 pm

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can help instructors develop assessments that can help prevent cheating. When UDL principles are utilized in courses and assessments, the framework can help reduce the opportunity, pressure, and rationalization that may lead a student to cheat. The Assessment Puzzle Toolkit, developed by Dr. Lindy Hockenberry, is a framework instructors can use to incorporate multiple ways for students to demonstrate their learning in assessments, such as through voice reflections, text, annotations, images, collaborations with AI, and more.

After this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify ways UDL can reduce pressure, opportunity, and rationalization associated with academic misconduct by improving assessment design.
  • Evaluate assessments for alignment with learning goals and identify construct-irrelevant features that may create unnecessary barriers for students.
  • Design assessments that make the student learning process visible through scaffolding, formative assessment, reflection, and multiple pieces of evidence.
  • Use the Assessment Puzzle Toolkit approach to redesign an existing assignment or assessment to be more learner-centered and AI-resilient.

Participants are encouraged to bring in their laptops or tablets.

This session will be held in McGraw 1 and virtually via Webex: Available after registration
