Sunflower Bean’s new record proves to be an alternative sensation the first time I heard it. I found the new record on New Artists Spotlight via iTunes. The album is titled “Human Ceremony.”
The title track “Human Ceremony” proves to be the slower tracks on the album with a male and female vocals throughout the track. This is a great introduction to the album because it gets the listener used to the Sunflower Bean’s new sound. The second track on the album titled “Come On’ is much faster paced than the first track which proves to be the norm throughout the entire album. There are loud drums during the climax of the song which continues through the next few songs. The third song titled: “2013” proves to be edgy as well as soon as it begins. The two female and male vocals take command early in the song, complementing the pace of the song well. This song is for sure a standout from the rest of the songs since it sounds just like a standard alternative song. “2013” takes a fast turn when it unexpectedly picks up until it abruptly ends. “Easier Said’ proves to be one of my favorites of the album because it slows down just a bit and lets the listener hear the music. The beat moves steadily throughout the song and that is what I like about the most. The vocals on top also complement the song nicely. “This Kind of Feeling” picks up where “2013” left off with the female vocals taking command yet again. The song proves to be just as edgy as the first two with a beat that takes early command. This song also has an abrupt ending. “I Was Home” is more of the same with a driving beat throughout and fast paced overall pace. This album proves to be one of my favorites with the vocals loud and clear throughout. I love how the overall sound of the song because it sounds just like the previous tracks.
The one thing I enjoy the most about the album is the vocals that sit on top of the music no matter how fast the songs go. I also enjoy hearing the instruments throughout the song along with the vocals. The reaming songs are quite interesting and prove why this album is under the category of alternative. Personally, I love albums with different sounds because I can take a different perspective on what I hear. I never want an album to sound the same because that can hinder my enjoyment and everyone else’s who ends up listening to the record. I was happy to find the band Sunflower Bean also released an EP last year. -Signe
Here is the latest mixtape that we are grooving to! Take a listen, these are songs that define us as individuals. They explain who we are, where we come from, what we like, and more! We have a great mixtape lined up for March!
Last week our debut for Live on the Edge Concert Series was the local Whitewater folk band, Andrus and the Mariners. These guys were a blast to have in the studio. If you haven’t had the chance to check out our behind the scenes Snapchat video, head over to Facebook and take a look. We are excited that they got to be here this past Thursday, so we could hear their great folk music. You will be able to hear the podcast this coming Thursday at 8pm so tune in or stream it!! Also stay tuned to see the UWWTV video that will be coming out soon to see the full live performance!
In case you missed one of the biggest TV events of the year, last night was the Superbowl. The music for the big 50 was amazing, if we do say so ourselves. The event started out with Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem, which was stunning. Lady Gaga, set aside the pop style and went in for the kill with her classically trained vocals. Then the Halftime show featured Coldplay, Bruno Mars, and Beyonce. The mixture of bold colors and the bold political statements in the lyrics, made this one of the most important performances to start around the year. Beyonce’s newly released track “Formation” took a very large part of her performance, and shortly after the show announced her World Tour. The tickets for Formation World Tour go on sale Tuesday (tomorrow!!) so we are rooting for you and want to see pictures if you get tickets! Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” was arguably one of the best dance routines of the show. At the end they came together to finish off the show with an dance-off/sing-off. Believe in love.
Avaberee’s album-“In your arms I found my secrets” is a sweet treat with synth-pop tracks that can also sound like the alternative rock we know and love. There is some pop in their sound which reminds me of the 80s since there was so many pop artists during that time.
Avaberee is a new band and I love discovering new artists dby listening to what they can do. I love seeing great bands live as well as sharing them with others who will for sure love them as much as I do.
The first song off the album titled “Only Waiting” is only two minutes but I like its rhythm since it seems danceable and fun to listen to.
“Can’t get you off my mind” is just as sweet if not more to the listener and sounds more like an alternative song. What I really like about this song is that I can hear more of what the band can do and I love the lyrics throughout. The song seems a bit more relaxed than the first song off the album which is why I like it so much.
“Lover of mine” picks up the pace with snaps and the sweet vocals throughout the song, it is short and sweet which makes it another one of my favorites.
“Doubt” is a great song beginning with the vocals singing a much slower tune that builds up over time as the song progresses. The song is about a troubled relationship with the female vocalist telling the story. The song does have a pop sound throughout once the song builds from the beginning and that is what I love about it. Ballads are my favorite type of song since I get to hear an artist’s vocals as they were meant to be heard.
“You I crave “is a highlight as well since it sounds a bit similar to the song before it. This is the last song on the album but I still like the beat throughout it. The song showcases the vocals singing the lyrics clearly over a soft music layer.
I highly recommend this album to anyone who loves music and vocals. I also love pop and alternative music as well as other genres. -Signe
