The Vex

Where we see beauty, the Vex see imperfection. Every world, every being, must be made anew.“—Ikora Rey

The vex are defiantly quite the topic and despite the wells of information we have on them they are still a mystery to us.  They are to the naked eye machines who work as a hive mind in a sense, but they are so much more complex than metal and wires, they are transtemporal, cybernetic war-machines, referred to as an time-spanning thought-mesh, basically time/space traveling robots able to simulate every out come in existence. Though individual Vex units vary considerably, most Vex appear as humanoid robots with large, fan-shaped heads and a red or yellow photoreceptor at the center. Despite their tails and long, claw-like fingers, the Vex appear to be mass-produced units, constructed of an unknown metal alloy resembling hammered brass. Their robotic bodies still carry a hint of organic components, however, particularly in the form of their mind cores, which contain a milky radiolarian fluid (Vex milk if you will) seemingly central to Vex functionality. However, interestingly enough according to records from the Ishtar Collective, Vex are capable of generating simulations of real-world events with perfect fidelity and predictive ability—essentially running a parallel reality in their minds which is arguably indistinguishable from the “real” universe. This ability appears to be limited only to ordinary situations, as the Vex are apparently unable to simulate complex phenomena that is linked to a paracausal power, these include Guardians.

The Leviathan

“When everything has been taken from you, nothing remains to you. And when you roar into nothing, nothing sometimes answers. So when you succeed, I invite you to walk in my gardens, and to wash yourself in my pools, and to test your might in my arenas. At the end of the game I just may await you, with treasure and with opportunity. For our work is not yet done. No, my champion, my work is not yet done.” –Emperor Calus

We answered the invitation, sot out the hidden treasure, stopped rituals, killed the war beats and ran the gauntlet but non of it prepared us for facing Calus himself. All our efforts where for nothing, we got out loot, armor and weapons guided in gold but we simply uncovered more questions then answers.  I have n more words only wonders, i nee time to think, to question… what is it all for? are we just pawns in all this?

Emperor Calus

For centuries, I led the revels of my empire, and the stars themselves burnt sweet and clear. But in time the jealous and the tight-fisted rose up and sent me into exile.“—Emperor Calus

The war with the Red Legion has ended, Ghaul is dead and the Travler has reawakened after 100s of years, peace has returned to the city and once more guardians triumph. In all my years as a guardian I have yet to see a challenge we cant over come, we’ve shut down vex networks, killed hive kings and gods, restored the Iron lords and put a end to the Red legion. Im not just boasting about our achievements for the sake of it, Im not as pretentious as some hunters. Don’t get the wrong idea these victories have come with great lose, there are many fireteams and guardians who have feel preeminently due to lack of information on the proper subject matter, many guardians louse their ghost and die their last death due to “going in blind.” The unknown both fascinates me and terrifies me, but the last thing I will allow is my fireteam to suffer due to my pride.

Unlike previous excursions this one raises many red flags in my book because it wasn’t something found or past down, the guardians have been Invited  to take on the challenges of the Leviathan, the personal “ship” of the exiled Cabal Emperor Calus, and I use the word ship lightly because this “ship” can swallow moons and planets whole.

The Ahamkara

And thus the Ahamkara were made extinct, their call silenced, their solipsistic flatteries erased, their great design – if it ever existed – broken. Of this you can be assured, oh reader mine. ” – Unknown

Ikora Rey

Ikora looks at me with one of those looks that—you know sometimes you talk to Ikora and you just think, wow, you are not even using a fraction of your brain on me, are you? One of those looks.“—Cayde-6

I trained under Ikora for years and as her personal apprentice I came to have a great respect for her. She taught me a great deal about what it meant to be a warlock, we weren’t just  scholars who hid in out books, we where warriors in the pursuit of further understanding, constantly pushing the boundaries of knowledge, even into dangerous territory. She started her career as an iconoclastic Guardian, with a reputation for being outspoken and impatient with the dogma of her peers. She had a very colorful life on the battlefield, whether fighting in the Cruisible or doing solo missions and getting shot down repeatedly, surviving against all odds. Her experience gave her a wealth of knowledge and newfound respect among her fellow Warlocks. Ikora wasn’t always a Vanguard, her mentor before her was Osiris.
