Revenge of the Peer Mentors: Fall 2020

Hello there! We’re Alyssa and Cassie, your PWP peer mentors for this semester. Starting in just a few short days (on 09/14/20, to be exact), we’ll be offering hours to meet with you all! Check the homepage of the blog for the basics, like the classes we can help you with and the times we’re available to meet.

Since we’re still waste-deep in the whole social distancing ordeal, we won’t be offering any in-person hours this semester. Instead, we join the majority of the campus in offering “virtual office hours” via Webex Meetings. This will work exactly like it did after the shift to distance learning last semester.

For anyone who’s joined us since then, or could just use a refresher, here’s a step-by-step guide detailing how to set up a meeting with us:

1. E-mail one of us to request a meeting. Cassie’s e-mail is OchowskiAM19@uww.edu; Alyssa’s e-mail is SabelAJ99@uww.edu

2. Look for an e-mail with a link to join the meeting. If you email us during our “office hours” and we’re not already meeting with someone, the meeting will likely be scheduled for just a few minutes from when you first contact us. Otherwise, it may be a bit later.

3. Shortly before the meeting is scheduled to begin, click on the green “Join Meeting” button. You will be taken to the Webex site. At the site, you can choose to open up a Webex application. If you don’t yet have the Webex application on your device, you may be prompted to install it. If you are not prompted to install it, you can do so here. However, if you don’t want to install it, you can use Webex directly through your browser: see bottom of page, “Having trouble opening the desktop app? Join from your browser.”

4. If we’re not yet in the meeting when you arrive, please wait for us to join it. We’ll be with you as soon as we can!

And there you have it! If you have any questions about literally anything PWP, feel free to reach out to either of us via our university emails (listed above) or our Twitter (linked in the site’s navbar). Until then, happy PWP’ing! <3

For anyone who read this entire post looking for details about a possible act of vengeance implied in the title, I can unfortunately confirm that our “revenge” is just providing helpful grammar advice and mentoring y’all. Like, literally the same thing we do every semester. The only difference this time around is that I gave our blog post a leading title in a desperate ploy to get you to read it.

So, if you made it this far, I commend you wholeheartedly. Your dedication to the PWP program is truly a model worth aspiring to. In fact, you’re my favorite PWP student, just don’t tell any of the other ones….

Okay, that’s it, that’s the end. I think I’m gonna go reread the “How to make blog posts” chapter of my web writing textbook now.
