Esports have been a world wide source of entertainment similar to the likes of major sports like basketball and soccer. Because of this, Esports has grown its own culture of fans from all over the world and united them all together to watch their favorite games be played at the highest level and cheer for the teams from their country. Not only has Esports had a major cultural impact on society but Esports have started reaching their way into our schools as well. Since the growth of Esports has been rising higher and higher as time goes on more and more schools and colleges are recognizing them as extracurricular for students to put more funding in. According to Mimshacks.com over 575 colleges across North America have started adding Esports programs for their students which is a 44% rise since 2023, this massive and rapid expansion demonstrates not only the accelerating growth of esports but also their increasing cultural and social relevance. But just as Esports doesn’t stop growing culturally it’ll also continue to grow and have impacts on our society in other ways.
An additional way that Esports has had an impact on our society is with the advancement of technology. With Esports showing off the highest level of play for video games it’s no secret that the players want the computers they use to be the best they can be. The technology we use for our computers only continues to advance and grow everyday, Esports remains as one of the driving factors for it in the back. Another way that Esports has helped society technologically is by helping pave the way for the advancement of streaming services. One example of this is the streaming website known as Twitch, Topendsports.com states “The rapid advance of technology has been pivotal in propelling esports into the mainstream. Digital platforms and streaming services have revolutionized how you access competitive gaming, making it more accessible than ever before.” and then goes on to name Twitch and Youtube as one of the streaming services that helped make the push to have Esports become more mainstream in our modern day. Thanks to this push from streaming services like Twitch helping put Esports in the public eye it helps them grow even more culturally further adding to its impact on our society of today.

In the end Esports has had a great impact on society in more ways than one might think outside of technological impacts, as the scene only continues to grow more and more so will its impact on our society. This can already be seen as more sponsors enter into the Esports genre such as Redbull and Intel which only serves to help it grow larger giving it a bigger stage for it to be noticed helping video games grow from more than just a hobby for people. With all these ways that Esports has left an impact on society it shows how Esports are here to stay and will continue to advance.
