UFC: This past weekend Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes found each other in the heavyweight division. Before this fight Blaydes was ranked second while Lewis was ranked fourth in the heavyweight rankings, so Blaydes was the favorite to win this fight. But in the end Lewis came out on top with an upper cut to Blaydes. This was the biggest upset in a UFC main even since 2016. Not only that but Lewis is now tied for the most knockouts or technical knockouts in UFC history with 12.
NFL: Earlier this week the Philadelphia Eagles made a big trade in trading Carson Wentz, who has been there starting quarterback since 2016 and even had an MVP season before he got injured. The Eagles ended up trading him to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third round pick and a 2022 second round pick. The Eagles starting quarterback will be Jalen Hurts next year. Now that the offseason is starting NFL teams are starting to cut players to create more space and more money to spend in free agency. The Eagles are cutting DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery while the Packers are cutting Ricky Wagner and Christian Kirksey.
NBA: This past week the NBA announced the starters and reserves for the All-star game. The starters for the eastern conference are Joel Embiid, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Giannis Antetokounmpo. While the reserves are Jayson Tatum, Ben Simmons, Julius Randle, James Harden, Jaylen Brown, Zach Lavine and Nikola Vucevic. The starters for the western conference are Nikola Jokic, Steph Curry, LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Kawhi Leonard. While the reserves are Anthony Davis, Paul George, Zion Williamson, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert and Chris Paul.
MLB: During the week the San Diego Padres and Fernando Tatis Jr came to agreement on a 14-year $340 million contract extension. His contract is the third largest in MLB history only behind Mike Trout and Mookie Betts.
I think that the Eagles made the right move in trading Carson Wentz. He was too much of an issue and hadn’t really proved himself after that stellar year he had. I think although Jalen Hurts has much to prove, he can be that starting quarterback that the Eagles need. It wasn’t that bad of a decision by their front office. I think that Devin Booker got snubbed from the original All Star selections. Since Anthony Davis is injured, they recently announced that Devin Booker will be replacing him. This is the second year in a row where Booker has only been chosen to the game due to an injury of another player. I think that that is completely stupid as he deserves the spot much more than AD even if AD wasn’t injured. Other than that, this All Star game will be alright.
That situation in Philly was hard to watch this past year of football. I think Jalen Hurts has great potential to step up as a solid QB1 for the Eagles. Im surprised they are cutting Alshon though. Cant wait to see what they do the rest of the offseason. Carson Wentz to the Colts I could see going really good or really bad, based off his last couple years I hope he can figure it out. He was must watch football but last year it was just hard to watch.
The Eagles trading Wentz was definitely the right move. The team was just not vibing well with him no more, granted that did have o-line problems. Plus it is good that they got rid of that insane contract. I’m not exactly convinced that Hurts is ready, but if they can develop him I think he could be pretty good. Now that Wentz has been traded, it will be interesting to see where other quarterbacks end up. I’m sure Deshaun Watson has a very high trade price and now there are even rumors of Russell Wilson seeking a trade. It’s crazy because there will be so many new quarterbacks on different teams next season.
