This Week in Sports 1/29-2/4

This week, the sports world was brought together with a bunch of new information, mainly regarding the NFL World.

The biggest of which came when Tom Brady, the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, announced his retirement for the second time in the last two seasons. Brady’s retirement signals a significant fork in the road for the Tampa Bay organization ahead of a very important offseason.

Another starting quarterback, well, sort of, came away with not so great news this week. Brock Purdy, who had been starting for the San Francisco 49ers for most of the year following injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo, was notified that it was in his best interest to get Tommy John Surgery, which will likely sideline him for most of next year.

Another big thing to watch as the offseason roars closer, is that of Aaron Rodgers and his decision to retire or continue playing football during the 2023 season, whether that be for the Green Bay Packers or a new team. Rodgers seemed displeased on the Pat McAfee Show this week, as he was told of the rumors that were swirling that Brian Gutekunst and the remainder of the Green Bay front office wanted to trade the once franchise quarterback, and roll with their former first-round draft choice, Jordan Love, moving forward. It will certainly be an interesting scenario if Rodgers is elsewhere for the 2023 season. There is still plenty of other headlines to come for this offseason.
