Phasmophobia by definition is the fear of ghosts. This however is not what we are talking about today, but rather we are talking about the new game on Steam “Phasmophobia”.
A new steam game has blown up in popularity recently named Phasmophobia.
This game is all about Ghost Hunting. If you’ve ever seen the Ghost Dimension or Ghost Hunters shows, you know exactly what you’re getting into with this game.
You start off at Level 1 with only a few of the most necessary items, and as you level up by completing contracts, you unlock more powerful items, like the Strong Flashlight and Sanity pills. Leveling up also Unlocks 2 additional difficulties. Intermediate and Professional. At the base difficulty, Amateur, You are given 5 “Safety Minutes” that allow you to enter the building and set up your equipment before the ghost becomes a lot more active. In those 5 minutes, the ghost can still give clues like freezing temperatures and it can flicker lights, but it won’t attack. On intermediate, The safety net is decreased to 2 minutes, and after the two minutes the ghost will start at a higher aggression rating. On Professional difficulty, there is no safety net, and the ghost will almost always be super-aggressive from the start of the match.
While the game is great, it is still in early access, so here’s a list of pros and cons that might help you make up your mind whether or not the game is for you.
Pros:
- Ghost Hunting gameplay perfectly matches tv shows ect.
- Atmospherically Terrifying
- Multiple levels range in size from tiny to massive
- 9 different ghost types to hunt
- each ghost type reveals itself with different clues
- Ghost behaviors can make you experience easy or hard
Cons:
- Early Access means not all content available yet
- Small bugs
- Some Items glitched
- Some Items completely useless for certain ghost types (Doesn’t sound terrible but you lose items on death so a new player going up against a ghost they’ve never faced before with an expensive item that they don’t know is useless against it can be a big dis-heartener)
Overall I’d give this game a 9/10. That might sound too good to be true for an early access game but it is truly something special. Having put roughly 50 hours into the game, you’d think with the way the game works, I’d be over the jumpscares and scary atmosphere but this game is truly terrifying. Every time I find myself losing the fear factor while playing this game, it quickly makes sure to give me heart palpitations! This game is definitely worth the 13 dollars on Steam and with a team of now 9 people, you can be sure it’s going to get non-stop updates!
I’ve noticed more youtubers and streamers playing this game. For me, I definitely would like to try out Phasmophobia because I enjoy the paranormal-type videogames. Have you seen the semi-similar game In Silence that people have been playing?
