Learn how to integrate accessible equations, charts, tables, and graphs into your course materials, including documents, lecture slides, and Canvas pages. Session topics include writing equations with LaTeX in Canvas, designing perceivable charts, tables, and graphs, and writing alt text and image descriptions for complex images. Beginning with the basics of designing perceivable data, the workshop will conclude with an optional open lab, allowing participants to work on their courses with CATLST experts.
Session Outcomes
After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Create perceivable charts, tables, and graphs by using accessible formatting, labels, and structures.
- Write effective alt text and descriptions for complex images, including data visualizations.
- Evaluate existing course materials (documents, lecture slides, and Canvas pages) for accessibility barriers related to data representation.
- Identify features in Canvas that support the display of accessible equations using LaTeX.
Participants are encouraged to bring in their laptops or tablets.
