My Digital Self

I stay updated on the news pretty regularly and get my information from a variety of sources. I am most interested in local news, especially in Whitewater and my hometown. Since there isn’t as much happening in Whitewater compared to where I’m from, I don’t follow Whitewater news as closely. While I’m here, I mainly get local updates through Facebook groups that I’m a part of. I also follow the police scanner, which I think is another useful way to stay informed about what’s going on nearby and a good way to know if there’s any potential immediate danger.

In my hometown, I rely more on Facebook because I follow several local news pages that post updates often. Another important way I get news is by listening to local radio stations. I think radio news is very reliable because it tends to be less biased and more trustworthy than posts made by individuals on social media. I also get news from watching television, although I don’t watch TV news as much as I use other sources. One reason for this is that many TV news stories focus on large cities and don’t usually relate to Whitewater or my hometown. However, TV is still a good way to learn about national and worldwide events.

Because I know the media can sometimes be biased, I try not to rely on just one source. The main news networks I follow on both TV and social media are CBS, ABC, and FOX. These help me stay aware of major events happening around the country and the world, such as international conflicts or natural disasters happening, like the huge winter storms over the past few weeks.

Sports news is my favorite type of news because it’s usually more positive and something I really enjoy. I’m a big sports fan, so I like to stay up to date. I mostly get sports news from television, since most of what I watch is sports related. Even though sports news doesn’t impact my daily life the same way local news does, it’s still important to me. I also follow sports updates on social media, mainly through Instagram and X (Twitter).

One thing I have never used for news is AI. Although this probably would be a good source for certain things, it’s important to know that not everything AI puts out is real. It would be a good way though to get links to sources to read the entire article.

Overall, I feel confident that I stay well-informed through the many ways I consume news, including social media, radio, and television. I think I pay more attention to the news than many people my age. Staying informed is important to me, and following the news has become a regular part of my daily routine. I don’t think I go a single day without reading, watching, or hearing information that matters in some way.
