Fall 2021 and spring 2022 meeting schedule

While the final schedule for the year will be announced in early fall (once the Buck’s 2021-22 schedule is available), here’s a rough look at the planned meetings and events for the 2021-22 competition year.

Teams are expected to participate “live” in the virtual events and trainings throughout the year. We will be working with teams to find the best times to hold these events. We will be using Zoom, Cisco’s Webex, or Microsoft Teams for hosting these virtual trainings.

  • August, 2021
    • Commitment to participate from final set of teams
    • Waitlisted teams notified about their participation
  • September 10th, 2021
    • Teams receive their drone and sensor kit
    • Start of regular monthly meetings and training sessions
    • Program #1 – Introduction to the program, overview of competition, starting point for teams and training, basic drone flight, where to get help
    • Meeting recording (available to Team leaders only on YouTube)
  • October 4th, 2021
    • Program #2 – Focus on Arduino programming, first sensor code
    • Meeting recording (available to Team leaders only on YouTube)
  • November 1st, 2021
    • Program #3 – Guest presentation from aerospace professional, focus on Arduino wireless communication
  • December 6th, 2021
    • Program #4 – Guest presentation from aerospace professional, focus on mission planning and communication
  • January 24th, 2022
    • Program #5 – Guest presentation from aerospace professional, focus on debugging and platform robustness
    • Start of team “check-ins” – scheduled individually with each team
  • February 14th, 2022
    • Guest speaker, Tom Compas, Embedded Systems Engineer, Ursa Major
    • Program #6 – Preparations for competition day; additional details about rules and scoring
    • Continue with team check-ins
  • March 14, 2022
    • Final tech-check and review of competition day
    • Help with drone flying
  • April 4, 2022
    • Guest speaker from NASA

Competition day schedule

All competition events will happen on April 7, 2022 — it’ll be a busy and long day. Please make your transportation plans well in advance to make sure your team arrives on time and is available for the full, long day. Note that teams are allowed in only in designated spaces inside the Fiserv Forum — most spaces including the main Bucks area are off limits during the drone competition day.

Schedule

  • 7:30 am – Team registration opens
    • Location: registration will be just inside the Fiserv Forum entrance and the main Atrium (will be posting map soon)
    • Teams will be assigned a “team space” in the Fiserv to setup and hang out
  • 8:00 am – Competition kickoff — Introductions, review of the day’s schedule, rules review
    • Location: Second floor Mezzanine
    • Please be on time so we can start promptly
  • 8:50 am – Competition begins
    • Location: Fiserv Atrium drone arena
    • Teams will be provided a 25 minute competition time slot (random selection) — see table below
    • Teams need to be in “pit” area at least 10 minutes before their assigned competition time
    • Teams will have 25 minutes to complete all tasks and leave the drone arena space
    • Team time starts at assigned time (unless modified by the judges)
    • Teams have 20 minutes after their competition time to turn in their final competition submission for scoring
    • No “official” lunch time — teams will eat lunch on their own in their
    • Teams can watch the remaining competition ONLY after they have turned in their competition report.
  • 2:15 pm – Competition ends; final judging session
  • ~3:00 pm – Awards Ceremony
    • Location: TBD
    • Team tickets will be handed out to team leaders at the end of the Awards Ceremony (single envelope with all tickets for team members)
  • 4:00 pm – Competition ends (official end of Aerospace Jam program)
  • 4-5:30 pm – Dinner on your own
    • We suggest finding a location within walking distance and not trying to drive from and to the Fiserv Forum.
  • 5:30 pm – Fiserv Forum reopen for general admission
  • 6:30 pm – Game tipoff time — Bucks vs. Celtics

After the competition ends at 4 pm, teams will be on their own to find dinner, return to watch the Bucks game, and to return home after the game.

Parking and drop-off

All team members and supplies should be dropped off at the Main Atrium doors (corner of West Juneau Ave. and Herb Kohl Way, Google Map link).
