Easy-to-Make Chocolate Chip Cake Cookies Recipe

This week’s dessert was chosen by my boyfriend. These cookies are his favorite version of chocolate chip cookies, and I’m a big fan of them too. We found this recipe a couple years ago in a YouTube video and we liked them so much that we saved the recipe (with a bit of an edit) and have made the cookies quite a lot. These cookies are incredibly easy to make (they only use 4 ingredients) and are a fun variation of classic chocolate chip cookies. 🙂

Like I said, there are 4 ingredients you will need for these cookies: a box of yellow cake mix, 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 2 eggs, and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil. For the cake mix, I prefer to use Pillsbury’s Moist Supreme Yellow cake mix (see right) but you can use a different brand or flavor if you like (you could use confetti cake mix). For the semi-sweet chocolate chips, I almost exclusively use Nestle Toll House chocolate chips (see below), but again you can use whatever brand you prefer.

To make the cookies, start by putting the cake mix in a bowl, then pour the oil and the eggs in and stir until even. Lastly, add the chocolate chips and stir until they are evenly dispersed. I use 1 cup of chocolate chips in my cookies because we like a lot of chips per cookie, but you can use less if you’re not a big chocolate fan. The final step is to bake the cookies. Put them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

There are two important things to note about this recipe: 1. When the batter is all mixed together, it will be quite oily and pliable – don’t worry! This makes it super easy to make the dough into balls and to clean your mixing bowl afterwards! 2. When baking, the cookies will rise a lot – the base of the cookie is cake mix so this is normal, they will flatten after they finish cooling. 🙂

These cookies are one of the quickest and easiest recipes that I make frequently and greatly enjoy. I think they taste really good and they are a nifty way to change up the classic chocolate chip cookie. I hope I have inspired some of you to try out this recipe for yourselves! Thanks for reading!

  1. These look like such delicious cookies for such a simple recipe. I’ve never heard of using a cake mix for cookies before, but after reading this, it makes me want to head to the store and grab the ingredients right now! Thanks so much for sharing!

  2. These look and sound super good! The idea of using cake mix as the base for cookies is something I have never heard of before, but I was immediately intrigued. Do they taste more like cake or cookies after they are done? I might have to go to the store and make some for myself.
