Last night the Music Committee got together to create the November Mixtape! Here is a sample of one of the great local artists that will be featured this month. Here is Milwaukee’s own The Pukes with their track “Murder.” We love the beach punk vibe this band has. It is a fun pump up song that we think you’ll love to walk to class to! Stay tuned for the Official Release of the Mixtape this weekend!!
Shannon and the Clams new album is the talk at the station. If you haven’t checked out ‘Gone by the Dawn’ yet, that is a must. If you are a fan of a vintage feel, their song How long will be your new jam. The lyrics on every song are deep and show raw emotions. This is the deepest and most complex album to date. Each track is full of grooving dance music and the classy sexy moonlit vocals that you would expect off an album like this. They are currently on our CMJ charts as well! All in all the album is like the B52s meets She and Him with a hint of Sock Hop vibe, all I need is my poodle skirt.
The 205 CMJ Music Marathon in NYC wrapped up a couple of weeks ago and there were many breakout artists that are important to note. See the list below and take a look and hopefully we will be hearing more about them soon.
“Our Own House” is my favorite album by my favorite band MisterWives and I was lucky enough to see them in concert at Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee recently and they blew my mind.
After downloading the song, it became an instant classic among the many others on my iPod. MisterWives kept their original sound on the album and did not change a thing since I downloaded their free single “Reflections.”
MisterWives released a new album called “Our Own House.” This track appears on the album and turns out to be quite joyful. It is one of my favorites because it has a feel-good beat along with blissful lyrics that begin the album. This is a great introduction to the album because MisterWives tells how they built their own house with love in mind. Like that house built on love, this album seems to be built on the same foundation.
The second track “Not Your Way” picks up the beat with faster paced music, but still keeps the distinct sound of the lead vocalist. I can’t help but dance to this song due to the lively chorus.
Another song I really like is “Vagabond” because of the overall energetic sound of it. The lyrics are happy which makes me happy. My favorite lines are “You’ve been up and down, down, you’ve been low, low, low.” I can relate to what they say in the song, and I’m sure most people can. If you’re having a bad day, I would recommend this uplifting tune.
“Box Around The Sun” is also another stand-out track from the album. The song might not be as bubbly as its predecessors, but that doesn’t stop it from being one that I’ll listen to on repeat. It has a smooth vibe.
“Imagination Infatuation” also qualifies as a gem. It seems like the guitar sound is the key to this song. The track is fast-paced, and the singer shows off her distinctive vocal talent. I was drawn to the song because of the creative title and judging by my enjoyment with the rest of the album, I thought it would be worth at least one listen.
Whether you are a person who loves the alternative genre or are in need of more great music, MisterWives is a great band to uplift your mood. This band is far enough along in their career that they have two albums to choose from. One thing is for certain, you won’t be disappointed. -Signe
