The Facebook Dilemma
The two videos below are a part of the documentary “Facebook Dilemma”, a two-part series about the beginnings and struggles of the powerful platform Facebook. These videos provide a deep dive into the early stages of the company, the issues that arose internally and externally, how leaders and previous employees responded to those issues, criticisms of the decision-making or lack thereof regarding these issues, how Facebook has grown and impacts those not only in its home country but those aroud the globe and current plans for how they are going to move forward.
This series was very interesting to watch as it opened my eyes to the lack of responsibility and urgency Facebook had to the arising problems that came from its platform. I learned that there were many instances in which they were warned about or were educated on the effects it was having on the users. This included their privacy and data, fake news, spread of hate speech, and more, yet they didn’t (and still don’t) take these issues with enough urgency and realistic implementation to make changes that will actually make a difference.
Young Mark Zuckerberg’s Mistakes
The next video is another look at the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, when he was in his early twenties, and as a fresh leader in the company. This video supports the same ideas as the first two did, in highlighting his mistakes and miscalculated approaches to policies, associated partners, features, and capabilities of Facebook, and how it has brought up discrepancies and worries with its users.
