Exercising for less than sixty minutes doesn\u2019t deplete our carbohydrate or electrolyte storages enough to require supplements such as Gatorade or Powerade. Instead simply drinking water will be plenty good for you.<\/p>\n<p>The amount of calories, sugars, carbs and sodium in sports drinks are very high.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gatorade:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Calories: 80<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Carbs: 21g<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sodium: 160mg <\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sugars: 21g<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><strong>Powerade:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><b>Calories: 100<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Carbs: 25g<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sodium: 100mg<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sugars: 20g <\/b><\/p>\n<p>People assume that since Gatorade is a \u201csports drink\u201d that it is healthy for you. In reality putting this amount of unneeded sugars and everything else in your body can be the exact opposite of what you want after a light to medium workout. There has been research done that proves that these sports drinks are as unhealthy as <a href=\"http:\/\/sph.umn.edu\/sph-research-finds-sports-drinks-just-as-unhealthy-as-soda\/\">soda<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Calories, sugars and sodium are all three big things that most of us could afford to cut back on as it is and drinking water rather than sports drinks is a very good way to do so. The average American consumes almost <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/features\/dssodium\/\">double\u00a0<\/a>the amount of sodium that is recommended for daily consumption.<\/p>\n<p>There are more watered down forms of Gatorade (G2) and<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pepsicobeveragefacts.com\/Home\/product?formula=12101&amp;form=RTD&amp;size=12\"> Powerade<\/a> (Powerade Zero) that are much healthier for you if you need a sports drink, but are looking for a healthier option.<\/p>\n<p>Other healthier options would include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adding a fresh lemon or lime into you water<\/li>\n<li>Natural flavored water<\/li>\n<li>Mixing natural juice with water<\/li>\n<li>Adding berries, basil or mint to your water<\/li>\n<li>Coconut water<\/li>\n<li>And a bunch of other healthier recipes <a href=\"http:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/recipes\/homemade-sports-drink-recipes\/\">here\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yesterday you said tomorrow<\/p>\n<p>-Eric Hess<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/warhawkfitness\/files\/2014\/11\/pic.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unless you are exercising intensely for over sixty minutes, sports drinks are nothing that you should be consuming.
