There is more to the skin care routine than lathering your face with moisturizer.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen? In the winter? As crazy as it sounds, the sun can be just as harsh to your skin as it is in the summer. Before leaving the house make sure to bundle up (scarf, gloves, hats) to avoid showing your skin to the cold air and put a layer of sunscreen on. Especially on your face.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin can help wash away dead skin cells, which are plentiful in the colder months. Dead skin cells can keep moisture from getting to your skin. This isn’t supposed to be part of your daily skin routine because of how harsh it can be on your skin. Once or twice a week would be fine!

Hydrate

This doesn’t limit to only hydrating your skin, but also eating and drinking hydrating foods such as:

Watermelon

Oranges

Kiwi

Tomatoes

Cucumber

Vitamins are also a good way to get hydration.

Omega 3

Vitamin C

Zinc

Flaxseed

Change the temperature of water

Using lukewarm water can help your skin hold in its natural oils more. Right after washing with the lukewarm water, make sure to moisturize your face immediately after. This will help keep the “dampness” of the water in your skin.

It’s hard to keep your skin healthy during the winter months and can be hard to keep up with it. With these few tips, and many more on the internet, you can keep your skin healthy and glowing. You might have a good skin care routine for the summer, but just because it works for you then doesn’t mean that it will work for you in the winter. Climates change and with that so does your skin. Do some research and find out what cleansers are good for your skin in the winter vs. the summer and get yourself a humidifier. A humidifier helps your skin and your body as a whole in the winter by keeping moisture is the room it’s set in!

Don’t wait for the opportunity, create it

Alexis Kisgen

12 Tips to Keep Skin Soft and Glowing In Winter

With the holidays comes the freezing, brisk air that hurts everyone’s face the second they step outside.
