Artist Spotlight: Waxahatchee

This week’s artist is Waxahatchee! As the creator and songwriter, Katie Crutchfield named the project after a river in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. She started releasing music under the name Waxahatchee in 2010; since, she has released 5 studio albums, including her most recent, St. Cloud which has been very well received. I heard her album St. Cloud for the first time last year- I was instantly was hooked. Her voice is an instrument in it’s own right- her natural talent for singing as well as songwriting is apparent in her album. I would recommend her to anyone that is looking to partake in some easy listening- her songs are calm, serene, and beautiful. There are also a few songs in her discography that get me moving, and a few I definitely scream along to in the car. Her songwriting both new and unique at the same time – her songs feel like songs I listened to as a kid or would have loved to listen to. She also has a rich catalogue of collaborations, including a 2 song release with artist Kevin Morby, who also happens to be her partner. Their covers of ‘Farewell Transmission’ and ‘The Dark Don’t Hide It’ are incredible- I hope they release more collaborations in the future! She also worked with artists Hurray For The Riff Raff and Bedouine on a cover of Elliott Smith’s ‘Thirteen’. I will link her latest album below- I definitely recommend you give it a listen!
