Department: Finance and Business Law
What was your favorite subject in school & why?
My favorite subject in school was Options and other derivatives. This class was challenging, math intensive, and it was very motivating for me.
What was your least favorite subject in school & why?
Anything related to accounting. I have a hard time following specific rules, just because the rules exist. What I need to know is the real market value, not the book value.
What were you doing before you came to Whitewater?
Before coming to Whitewater, I was finishing my Ph.D. at HEC Montreal, the business school of the University of Montreal. I was also on the Board of Directors of a Financial Corporation.
What made you want to teach?
Apparently, I am good at teaching. I like to help students understand and I have done it since high school. In fact, friends would come to my place to do their homework and I would re-explain what we saw in class using different terms and examples. I would never give them the answer, but made sure they understood. I kept the habit of helping others, because I know it is helping me as much as it is them. I’ve always helped others in class and I intuitively carried that into the classroom the first time I taught.
What professional experience do you bring into the classroom?
I did a plethora of different jobs: salesman, door-to-door solicitation, construction worker, software programmer, network technician, and IT department director.
What do you like to do outside of the College of Business & Economics?
I like working with my hands and I like working with my brain. I would continue doing research in Finance, and then I would build furniture “sur mesure”.
What is something that students would be surprised to learn about you?
I am very good at putting nail polish (on other people). I do more than put on a single color. I can do shades, lines, patterns, faux nails, etc.
What is something about teaching that was unexpected when you first began?
As a student, I always found traditional lectures irrelevant and boring. Staying away from those is more challenging than I thought. It requires much more preparation and effort.
