Department: Information Technology & Business Education
What was your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject growing up was doing anything that needed to be solved, like balancing chemical equations or solving algebraic expressions.
What was your least favorite subject in school?
My least favorite subject was anything related to history, which is interesting because that is what I really enjoy now – there truly is value looking at the past for possible solutions to the present.
What were you doing before you came to Whitewater?
I lived in Oxford, Alabama and was an Assistant Professor of Computer Information Systems at Jacksonville State University – “the friendliest campus in the South”.
What made you want to teach?
I was given the opportunity to teach for the first time in graduate school and I received very positive feedback from both students and faculty. Until then, I never considered being an educator or even knew how to teach – I simply spoke to students the way I wanted to be spoken to as a student. My first time teaching was exhilarating, enjoyable, and is something I still experience every time I step in front of a classroom. Those emotions fueled my desire to teach.
What research are you currently working on?
I focus on technology-related opportunities, primarily set in Asia (i.e., Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Korea). I seek answers for policy makers and management to use technology in a way that enhances economic development in both developing and developed countries.
What do you like to do outside of the College of Business & Economics?
Staycations. I am from Wisconsin (Milwaukee) and I enjoy traveling the state with my wife and son the way I did growing up.
What is something that students would be surprised to learn about you?
I played Australian Rules Football for several years, first with the Milwaukee Bombers, later with the Atlanta Kookaburras.
What is something about teaching that was unexpected when you first began?
I did not expect that I would enjoy teaching as much as I do. I am amazed that I have a job teaching students about things that I really enjoy doing.
