6 Tips for Dealing with Summer Courses

Those dreaded summer courses. They are known for being many things: condensed, intense, easier, harder, etc. But, they are definitely not known for being fun. College students take summer classes for various reasons, but, usually, it’s to get a course requirement fulfilled on the fly. And, whether you are taking a summer course by choice or by design, having to continue classes while most other students are taking a much-needed break can be a bit of a downer. Fortunately, though, there are tons of ways to make summer courses easier on your vacation-starved brain and make sure you get the most fun out of your summer break as possible while you’re at it.

1. Finish everything early in the day.

For anyone in college this tip is the most difficult to do. The last thing any college student wants to do when they wake up in the morning is get to work studying, especially during summer vacation. But, as tempting as those re-runs of favorite TV show are looking, remember that all the fun really starts later in the day, and it feels so good to be able to relax without school work hanging over your head.

2. Set reminders on your phone.

Because your summertime vibe will be a bit more laid-back than your schedule during spring or fall terms, it can be easy to forget to do assignments, get to meetings, and even go to class. Take the pressure off by pre-programming everything you need to do into your phone so you never forget or lose track of time.

3. Catch some rays before afternoon classes.

If your summer classes fall in the afternoon, there is no reason to give up those precious pool hours. Bring a beach towel and your textbooks to campus and lay out for a while before your classes start. The summer is no time to be wasting sunlight!

4. Find a chill public place to write.

Instead of cramping yourself inside your apartment until your work is done each day, it’s better to change things up by finding cool places to do your work. This is a great way to explore your city and hang out at different locations alone or with friends.

5. Study by the pool.

Never, ever underestimate the beauty of a textbook poolside. Okay, maybe beauty is the wrong word. But, your reading materials will look at least a little more appealing in a relaxing, outside environment. A poolside margarita to go with that study time is your call.

6. Party hard as a reward.

When you are able to stick to your study schedule and get things done early in the day, make sure to reward yourself by going out and enjoying yourself at night. The summer is when all the best parties are happening, so make sure to take part in the fun and play just as hard as you work.
