This free, public event runs from noon to 3:15 p.m. in the James R. Connor University Center Hamilton Room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 9.4pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a showcase of academic student engagement in its purest form &#8211; seeing students engage in scholarly activity through undergraduate research within their discipline and across disciplines,&#8221; said Whitney Supianoski, director of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/sdes\/diversity-programs\/mcnair-scholars\">McNair Scholars Program<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 9.4pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">Projects range from economics, social work, psychology to performing and creative art pieces. Many of the students have been preparing their research and working alongside their faculty mentors for a year or more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 9.4pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">&#8220;Students really take ownership of their learning when they engage in undergraduate research. They learn how to find solutions to problems or questions that are important to them, and they practice communicating their work and its significance to people who may not be in their field of expertise. These are important skills to acquire as students prepare for their careers beyond college,&#8221; said Catherine Chan, director of the\u00a0<\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uww.edu\/urp\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #422d5c; letter-spacing: -.35pt;\">Undergraduate Research Program<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 9.4pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">As a longstanding UW-Whitewater event, Undergraduate Research Day has grown not only in numbers, but in the quality and the array of the research being presented.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 9.4pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve witnessed a lot of growth in the variety of the projects being presented,&#8221; said Chan. &#8220;There are more team-based projects now, and more interdisciplinary projects being developed. There are also an increasing number of projects that include community partners or explicitly address issues in the community.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0in 0in 9.4pt 0in;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #666666;\">&#8220;Undergraduate research allow students to develop as scholars and professionals.
