Returning to a pre-COVID class environment means having to readjust study strategies adopted during COVID-19. The following study tips are tailored to increase memorization and efficiency to make this a “work smarter, not harder” semester.

Tip 1: Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique was a study method developed for students by a student. Tailored for a student’s budget, all you will need is a simple timer. You will then follow the following steps:

Step 1: Identify a task/ topic/ chapter

Step 2: Set a time for 20 – 25 minutes to study

When this session ends, note briefly the most important facts you remember

Step 3: Take a 5-minute break

Step 4: Repeat this cycle 4 times.

After the 4th session, take a refreshing break for 15 – 30 minutes.

This technique alters the concept of time passing by placing you in control of how you choose to use it.

Tip 2: Create an A+ Playlist

Create a productive study environment through the use of music. Music has the power to improve one’s mood. Optimize enjoyment without sacrificing your ability to retain information through limiting distractions by creating an hour long, instrumental playlist beforehand. In addition, certain genres have been proven to improve performance, such as classical music paired with mathematics.

Tip 3: Crunch Time

Cram smarter with the assistance of educational platforms such as Quizlet. Study guides narrow the topics to expect. However, paired with educational platforms, the topics are condensed into relevant information with potential questions posted by previous students enrolled in similar courses. Cramming will boost your performance in the short-term. Be sure to use it sparingly throughout the semester to reduce the time you will have to reinvest in relearning the same information at the end of the semester.

Overall, space out time to prevent being overwhelmed and reward yourself. Good luck!

By: Lainah Mangwiza Study Smarter The education realm is returning to normalcy with in-person classes set to make a comeback this fall.
