{"id":5628,"date":"2018-01-22T09:00:02","date_gmt":"2018-01-22T15:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/ucinfo\/?p=5628"},"modified":"2025-06-05T09:28:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-05T14:28:20","slug":"whats-the-difference-between-purple-points-and-dining-dollars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/ucinfo\/2018\/01\/22\/whats-the-difference-between-purple-points-and-dining-dollars\/","title":{"rendered":"What\u2019s the Difference Between Purple Points and Dining Dollars?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"131\" data-end=\"155\"><strong data-start=\"131\" data-end=\"155\">Greetings, Warhawks!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"157\" data-end=\"311\">At some point during your time at UW-Whitewater, you\u2019ve probably asked yourself:<br data-start=\"237\" data-end=\"240\" \/><strong data-start=\"240\" data-end=\"309\">\u201cWhat\u2019s the difference between Purple Points and Dining Dollars?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"313\" data-end=\"544\">You might hear a mix of answers from friends and classmates, but we\u2019re here to give you the <em data-start=\"404\" data-end=\"411\">facts<\/em>, straight from <strong data-start=\"427\" data-end=\"450\">The HawkCard Office<\/strong>: your go-to resource for everything related to Dining Dollars, Purple Points, and Meal Plans.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"546\" data-end=\"549\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"587\">Let\u2019s start with Dining Dollars:<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"589\" data-end=\"681\">If you\u2019ve ever had a required meal plan, you\u2019ve already had Dining Dollars on your HawkCard.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"683\" data-end=\"915\">Dining Dollars are added to your card at the start of each semester in amounts of $50 or $100, depending on your weekly meal plan. If you\u2019re on the <strong data-start=\"831\" data-end=\"858\">Full Dining Dollar Plan<\/strong>, you\u2019ll receive <strong data-start=\"875\" data-end=\"883\">$935<\/strong> to use throughout the semester.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"917\" data-end=\"953\">So, what exactly are Dining Dollars?<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"955\" data-end=\"1312\">Think of them as campus cash-with perks. Dining Dollars give you a <strong data-start=\"1022\" data-end=\"1038\">15% discount<\/strong> at dining halls and a <strong data-start=\"1061\" data-end=\"1077\">10% discount<\/strong> at all other campus dining locations. They\u2019re available with any meal plan, whether you choose a Weekly Meal Plan or a Flex Plan.<br data-start=\"1207\" data-end=\"1210\" \/>Just a heads-up: Dining Dollars <strong data-start=\"1242\" data-end=\"1284\">expire at the end of the academic year<\/strong>, so be sure to use them up!<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1314\" data-end=\"1317\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"1319\" data-end=\"1368\">So how are they different from Purple Points?<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1370\" data-end=\"1385\">Great question!<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1591\"><strong data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1404\">Purple Points<\/strong> are available to <em data-start=\"1422\" data-end=\"1427\">all<\/em> students, regardless of whether you have a meal plan. They\u2019re more flexible than Dining Dollars and <strong data-start=\"1527\" data-end=\"1558\">roll over from year to year<\/strong> until you graduate or leave UWW.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1593\" data-end=\"1622\">Purple Points can be used at:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1783\">\n<li data-start=\"1623\" data-end=\"1644\">\n<p data-start=\"1625\" data-end=\"1644\">The UWW Bookstore<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1645\" data-end=\"1672\">\n<p data-start=\"1647\" data-end=\"1672\">Campus vending machines<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1673\" data-end=\"1694\">\n<p data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"1694\">The Health Center<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1695\" data-end=\"1722\">\n<p data-start=\"1697\" data-end=\"1722\">Campus dining locations<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1723\" data-end=\"1783\">\n<p data-start=\"1725\" data-end=\"1783\">Even to <em data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1743\">purchase<\/em> Dining Dollars at the HawkCard Office<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1785\" data-end=\"2038\">Plus, many off-campus locations near campus accept Purple Points too!<br data-start=\"1854\" data-end=\"1857\" \/>You can find a full list of participating merchants here:<br data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"1917\" \/><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/uc\/hawkcard\/purple-points#off-campus-purple-points-locations\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"1920\" data-end=\"2038\">Off-Campus Purple Points Locations<\/a><\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2040\" data-end=\"2043\" \/>\n<h3 data-start=\"2045\" data-end=\"2068\">Which one\u2019s better?<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2070\" data-end=\"2116\">Honestly, there\u2019s no one-size-fits-all answer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2118\" data-end=\"2362\">Both Dining Dollars and Purple Points are convenient, dollar-for-dollar accounts accessed right from your <strong data-start=\"2224\" data-end=\"2236\">HawkCard<\/strong>.
