The lives of college students are busier than ever, so how do you keep up the juggling act and keep up with everything? I’ve got a few tips and tricks that’ll help you stay organized and focused now that spring semester is starting up.

Not feeling your paper to-do lists anymore? Try a service like Wunderlist. This app lets you manage your to-dos from your phone or your computer! I personally love Wunderlist because a) it’s free, and b) I can set due dates and create folders for all of my classes, projects, or just personal tasks I need to get done. If you’re an iPhone user, you can combine it with the Reminders app to keep knocking everything off your list.

The real MVPs for keeping my life together

Being involved in student orgs is a great way to make connections and explore your interests during your college career, but all of those orgs and committee meetings can really add up. If you haven’t made the move to a digital calendar yet, let me sing the praises of Outlook to you. Outlook takes away the pain of planning when you have a group project meeting. Outlook (in combination with your phone) will tell you when to leave for something so you’re not late. Outlook will even tell you who can make it to your event and who you should question for skipping out on it. I can say without exaggeration that if UW-Whitewater’s email system went down and I lost my Outlook calendar, I would be nonfunctional.

My last tip to be more organized even with too many commitments is to know your limits. It’s okay to say no to an extra commitment if you feel it’ll be too much added stress! Don’t forget that you’re at UW-Whitewater primarily for academics. That said, with the tips and tricks I’ve shared with you, you’re on the right track to staying organized when you’re feeling overcommitted!

Student orgs, committee meetings, classes, and jobs.
