If you could go back in time and live a day in the life of Dr. King, would you? Would you want to experience what he experienced on a daily basis? Would you be willing to witness the discrimination on a first had basis?<\/p>\n<p>Forty-five years ago, the Black Student Union on UW-Whitewater\u2019s campus became the first established in the state of Wisconsin. The founders experiences similar discrimination as Dr. King, and they took what they learned from him and created what we have today.<\/p>\n<p>Roberta\u2019s Art Gallery is taking you through pieces of his journey and how it affected people on the UW-Whitewater campus. This is an opportunity to put yourself in the place of black students during the time of the civil rights movement. It will allow you to have a deeper understanding of what they went through to be accepted on this campus. Roberta\u2019s Art Gallery along with the Black Student Union present \u201cWhere Dreams Begin\u201d. The exhibit features a historical walk through of how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr\u2019s legacy continues to thrive on UW-Whitewater\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery features a timeline of events showcasing important events from the time period discussing the struggles, achievements, and historical moments for the black movement on our campus. At the heart of the exhibit is a beautiful painting of a tree representing every current member of BSU as well as several important alumni. In addition to BSU, black fraternities and sororities on campus are on display talking about the role they have played in continuing the values of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, April 8 will be the opening reception for the exhibit. The event will be very powerful, as it will contain stepping, poetry, singing, as well as notable alumni who sharing their stories from their time on campus. The reception will take place from 4:30pm-6:00pm. Light refreshments will be provided.\u00a0Please take a moment to stop by the gallery and experience the journey.
