Where it’s Going
In my previous blog post, I introduced myself and shared my background in agriculture. I wanted to note that while my time in 4-H and FFA is done, and I no longer raise and show animals at the fair, the passion never goes away.
I’m currently a second-semester sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, majoring in Communications with an emphasis in Public Relations, a minor in Marketing, and a certificate in Event Planning and Promotion. While none of this is ag-based, that’s my ultimate goal after graduation; to obtain a job in the ag industry. My favorite thing to do is educate others on agriculture, and I’m hoping to find a job that allows me to do that.
This coming summer I will be working at ALCIVIA, an animal nutrition, and energy co-op as their marketing communications intern. I’m super excited and grateful for this opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills while getting to work in the industry that I love.
In addition to my internship, another way that I stay connected to the industry and educate others is by helping out the local 4-H and FFA kids with their fair animal projects. Teaching the younger generations and getting their passion started is so rewarding, and it allows me to still be able to work with animals and be active in the local and county fairs. At the beginning of March, we’ll be heading North with a local family to pick out and purchase the pigs that they’ll be raising for fair and housing them on my family’s farm. After the barn sat empty last year, we are super excited to see it back in use, and can’t wait to see what this year holds.
