Welcome back to the Student Section!
If you’re new, we like to talk sports around here. We have covered the big three in my opinion. The MLB, the NFL, and the NBA. We even got around to some sports gambeling. Though what we haven’t done is spoke a word about any of the other sports in existence. I’m not saying we are gonna do that today. Though today we are going to talk about the top 3 athletes of all time. Spoiler alert not all 3 come from our big three (MLB, NFL, NBA).
Before you comment I left someone out… I know. This is kind of my personalized list. An opinion piece. Ranking 3 of the best athletes is tough, especially when we have seen so many incredible professional athletes.
In no order we start with our first athlete.
Michael Jordan.
Do I really have to explain this one? His Royal Airness? The hardest part about this list is I haven’t even seen most of these athletes in their prime if at all. Though everyone who knows anything about sports… knows MJ. If you don’t know who Michael Jordan is I highly recommend watching “The Last Dance” on Netflix. An incredible documentary about MJ’s reign with the Chicago Bulls. Though what makes Michael one of the best athletes in the world? Lets see his resume.
- Rookie of the Year
- Five-time NBA MVP
- Six-time NBA Champion
- Six-time NBA Finals MVP
- Ten-time All-NBA First Team
- Nine Time NBA All-Defensive First Team
- Defensive Player of the Year
- 14-Time NBA All-Star
- Three-Time NBA All-Star MVP
- Ten Scoring Titles
I probably missed even more but holy s***. This man ran basketball. Considered the GOAT in the basketball world Michael Jordan was one of the greatest athletes that’ll ever grace a sport. Again, watch the Netflix documentary and see for yourself.
Serena Williams.
Tennis is something we haven’t covered or even hinted at on this blog. But without a doubt if you’re talking greatness you must speak on Serena Williams. I’m not the biggest tennis guy, but I did my research and she deserves a spot on this top 3 list. Like Jordan, let’s look at her significant resume.
- Named Sports Illustrated “Best Female Athlete of the Decade” in 2009
- 4-time Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year
- 2012 Olympics she won gold medals in singles and doubles
- US Open Mixed Doubles champion (1998)
- Wimbledon mixed doubles champion (1998)
- 2012 Olympics singles gold medalist
- 3-time Olympics doubles gold medalist (2000, 2008, 2012)
- 2-time French Open doubles champion (1999, 2010)
- 2-time US Open doubles champion (1999, 2009)
- 4-time Australian Open doubles champion (2001, 2003, 2009, 2010)
- 6-time Wimbledon doubles champion (2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2016)
- 3-time French Open singles champion (2002, 2013, 2015)
- 6-time Australian Open singles champion (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015)
- 6-time US Open singles champion (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014)
- 7-time Wimbledon singles champion (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016)
Yeah… you do the math. I feel like Serena Williams doesn’t get half the credit she deserves. I mean she won with a baby on board! She reeks of greatness. I don’t know if this is entirely true but I once heard someone offered 1 Million dollars for her and Lebron James to have a kid together. You could only imagine the athleticism that kid would have. Serena Williams is an incredible athlete.
Tiger Woods.
The man, the myth, the legend… Tiger Woods. Making this list and researching these athletes resumes is incredible. They win win win. Tiger Woods has an incredible resume for himself.
- PGA Player of the Year a record eleven times
- PGA Tour Player of the Year a record eleven times
- PGA Tour Money Leader a record ten times
- Vardon Trophy winner a record nine times
- Byron Nelson Award a record nine times
- Won 15 professional major golf championships
- Won 82 PGA tour events
Imagine that trophy room he has. 82 PGA tour events. 82. In debatetly one of the hardest sports in the world. He leads all-active golfers in career major wins and career PGA tour wins… I mean come on. We are talking about golf. Like Serena Williams I feel that Tiger is overwhelmingly an underrated athlete.
That’s my top 3. Let me know who your top three greatest athletes of all time are. Simone Biles? Michael Phelps? Muhhamed Ali? So many great athletes.
See you next Friday!
I like this list that you made these athletes dominated when they were in there prime. My top three would be Michael Jordan that doesn’t need much explanation, Tom Brady this guy has won sooooo many super bowls and super bowl mvps and Muhammed Ali this guy did a lot for boxing and changed the boxing landscape.
I think it’s impossible to make a list that everyone is going to agree with, there are so many great athletes that it’s so hard to just pick three. It’s also hard because they play different sports with different skill sets, which means the most fair way of comparing is by how they dominate their respected sport, which all three of yours did. I also think Tom Brady and LeBron James are two that deserve to be in the conversation.
I like your list here and think that the three you picked deserve to be here. The three that you picked all are the best to ever do it in their respective sport. They are the greatest because there has not been others that can compare to them. MJ, Serena, and Woods are three that have such impressive resumes that I don’t know how you couldn’t consider them one of the best.I honestly think there is a list of about ten athletes that you could argue could bring included in a top three ranking. I would have to argue that Tom Brady could be on the list. His resume is insane. You kind of went away from the big three, which I liked and made arguments for athletes that no on talks about. For baseball, I think it’s kind of hard to say who was the greatest. There are so many people deserving. Hank Aaron is one that I can see.

I like your list here for the three athletes. However, I believe that Roger Federer could and should replace Serena Williams for the tennis spot. I’m a huge tennis fan and I believe that Roger’s impact on the game, as well as his dominance and persona on and off the court is something unrivaled by any tennis player. I think a lot of people forget about men’s tennis and what those athletes bring to the table. Roger Federer did top the Forbes List for highest athletes paid over the likes of Lebron James, Cristiano Ronaldo and more.
