Whew! My heart is still pounding after that thriller at AT&T Stadium! This week the Green and Gold traveled to Dallas to take on the Cowboys in a matchup that many expected to be a revenge game for Dallas after Green Bay knocked them out of the playoffs last season on a final second field goal kick. Little did they know, Aaron Rodgers was as hot as always and led the Pack to another fantastic finish with the Green Bay on top.
The Packers got off to a tough start with some struggles on defense and a missed extra point in the first quarter. Dallas marched downfield for a touchdown on their opening drive, but Green Bay was able to respond by doing the same. With the missed extra point the Packers managed to finish the quarter down by only one with a score of 7-6 Dallas.
The second quarter brought much of the same with another missed extra point from Mason Crosby and two sacks on Aaron Rodgers. Dallas scored two more easy touchdowns making it 21-6 with things looking a little dark for the Packers. Things took a turn for the better though, nearing the end of the half as Rodgers hands off to Aaron Jones for a touchdown. Alas, Crosby again missed the extra point to leave the score at 21-12. Following the Packers score, Dallas led the game to the half with a scoreless possession. Halftime score: 21-12 Dallas.
The Packers started the half with the ball and made their way downfield all the way to Dallas’ 4 yard-line, but unfortunately, they had to settle for a field goal, that Crosby thankfully put through the uprights to make the score 21-15 Dallas. The Cowboys end the third quarter without scoring, keeping the score at 21-15 Dallas going into the final quarter of the game.
Things really heated up for Green Bay in the 4th quarter. In the very first play of the quarter, the Packers take their first lead of the game with a touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson making the score 22-21 Packers. Dallas answered back scoring 3 to regain the lead at 24-22 Dallas. The Packers quickly took back the lead though, with an interception to Damarius Randall to the endzone. Again, this touchdown ended with just 6 points, with a failed 2 point conversion. The score, 28-24. The two minute warning approached with no more scores from either team, but Dallas had the ball in the red zone. With just 1:13 left in the game, Dallas takes the lead again; 31-28 Cowboys.
*Finger nail biting starting now*
Lets face it, who would you want as your starting quarterback when you’re down with minimal time left in the 4th quarter? Aaron Rodgers, obviously. Rodgers saved the day with a quick drive down the field and a touchdown to Davante Adams leaving just 11 seconds left on the clock for Dallas. Dallas was unable to respond, and the good guys took the W.
Final score: Packers 35, Cowboys 31.
Tune in next Sunday as the Packers take on the Vikings in Minnesota at noon. The less of that obnoxious Gjallarhorn we hear the better!
Go Pack Go!
