Good afternoon my fellow Packers fans!
As you all probably know, the Packers have a BYE this week. That comes with some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that this Sunday will be Packerless. The good news though, is that there are plenty of other games we can watch to pass the time AND it will give our injury-ridden team a little break to help them heal up and come back good as new! Well, maybe not good as new, but possibly good as gently used?
Unfortunately, Aaron Rodgers will not be one of the players who is ready to go after the BYE week. So for this post, we’re going to take a look at the guys we’ve got at the QB positions.
Our current QB situation includes Brett Hundley as our starter, Joe Callahan as the backup QB, and newly signed Jerod Evans on the practice squad.
Brett Hundley has improved a lot since being thrown into the game unexpectedly after Rodgers got hurt in Minnesota. We have seen some rookie mistakes, but that is to be expected. Hundley may not be Aaron Rodgers, but he hasn’t had the time to gain the experiences that Rodgers has. As I’ve said before, give the guy some time.
Hundley has done some very positive things though since his first start. We’ve seen him be quick, risky and confident. All things we expect out of a Green Bay Packers QB right? Last week against the Saints, Hundley showed that he could move the ball down the field quickly, and get the ball off quickly too. Hundley also showed that he is willing to take risks and is confident in himself. When he could have played it safe and thrown the ball out of bounds, he instead threw into a few tight spots with defenders close. When Hundley could have slid or ran out of bounds just short of the goal line to avoid a hit, he instead dived into the endzone to score a TD. Promising stuff to see from a new guy!
So for now at least, it seems that Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy are pretty pleased with what they’ve seen so far out of Hundley, and won’t be making any changes to the lineup which is something we should all be able to live with. Good luck Hundley! You’ve got big shoes to fill!
Go Pack Go!
