Pres. Trump has taken large action on his goals for immigration in the US. But it hasn’t gone as smoothly according to others. Recently there has been many incidences where Immigration and Customs Enforcement mistakenly detained American citizens while conducting raids as reported by NBC News. And with ICE being spotted in the Janesville and Whitewater areas of Southern Wisconsin, people wonder if their community members feel safe or if they feel intimidated.

Several community members who are immigrants expressed their concern over recent procedures carried out by ICE. “I would be scared because I don’t carry my green card every day. Just my state ID.” said Janesville resident Jon Fazliu who moved to the US in 2020 from Kosovo. “If I see them on the road I would be scared.” Said Valton Zeneli. “I would be worried they’re going to take me with asking for my ID, and I just moved last year.” Said Valton.

While local police departments around the county have put out statements expressing how they’ll only focus on normal policing, as is this statement from the Janesville Police Department; JPD Statement January 20 2025. Trump’s second term have been put to question. In the original article by NBC News, two representees sent to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and acting director of ICE Caleb Vitello questing the motive of these recent arrests. As it was also mentioned in the original article that several members of the Navajo nation were question by ICE in regards of their immigration status. With the main issue that Navajo nation Pres. Buu Nygren brought up in a radio address was in regard to members’ being targeted due to their race and/or skin color. Whilst the debate on America’s immigration has flared up in recent weeks, many people are questioning the competency of agencies enforcing these new regulations set out by Pres. Trump. This is a part of one of many new controversies in the second term of Donald Trump, as Pres. Trump is also under fire for his policies on tariffs, Elon Musk and overuse of executive orders.

While only being in his second term for less than a hundred days.
