Getting news is very interesting in today’s world, especially if you’re a diaspora, then you have to deal with two types of news. Here’s what I’m talking about.
While I was born and raised in the United States, I’m actually a dual citizen as I also hold Kosovo citizenship; so, I have to follow both worlds when it comes to news. And that can be interesting at times, as following news in two different languages and two different mentalities can be a bit of a challenge.
While I get most of my English language media from online form websites such as Ground News, Facebook, Instagram and the BBC where I read some articles. But most the news I consume is from video or audio format as they can include some visual and audio aides to help me better understand the context of the story. And the same thing for Albanian news, but I would also ask my dad to explain to me what’s happing in better detail. I tend to use Ground News for my normal news reading as it this chart that shows which media organizations are biased depending on if they’re right or left oriented in politics. And for video and audio news, I tend go to the BBC or Deutsche Welle as they also give me an insight of international news, as most of the TV news channels in the US only goes in depth on domestic news.
Facebook also helps me get local news headlines from publications such as the Janesville Gazette, Beloit Daily News and the local community page which works like a bulletin board system. Usually with the local community pages I tend to be more cautious as people on these posts tend to be politicly opiniated as sometimes they would use certain language to push their agenda. But that usually refers to issues with a businesses or comments on big national stories. I don’t really interact with news stories online, I don’t feel it’s worth my time. The exception to that is soccer(football); in that case, I make sure that I defend my team Liverpool F.C. no matter which context it is.
That brings me to the way I interact with soccer news, as that’s when I tend to watch sort news clips from the sports channel’s social media pages. Such as CBS Sports, Sky Sports, TNT Sport and various other pages from the UK. Also, for soccer I get a lot of my news from the Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, that’s due to his quick and accurate reporting on Soccer transfers and his charm when he starts his videos with his catch phrase “Here We GO!”
That and the fact that most major soccer transfer reporting is based on Romano’s reports, it also gives me hope that the field of independent journalism is getting the respect it deserves. As Romano now has a successful X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube page where fans of the sport and other journalist get the latest news on soccer transfers.
