Steffi Graf was born in 1969 in Germany with parents who had also played tennis. She began playing at 4 years only and by age 6 she had won her first juniors tournament. When she was 13 years old, she went professional and at that same age was the second-youngest player to achieve an international ranking which was 124. In 1984, Steffi won her first gold metal at the Olympic Games. By the end of 1985, Graf was ranked number 6. In 1987, Graf competed in the French Open and won her very first Grand Slam title. She ended up defeating another well known player, Martina Navratilova who I also give a profile for in this blog. Steffi competed for more Grand Slam titles and soon became the number one female tennis player in the world.

Before winning her Golden Slam title in 1988 by winning all four major competitions and Olympic gold, she wont 22 Grand Slam singles titles. She held the title of female number one tennis player for about three years consecutively. She is only the third female player to win all Grand Slam events in one year. Graf played in as many tournaments as she could and by 1991, she won 500 matches. Another famous tournament she played in was the Olympic Games in Splain and came out with a silver metal. Until 1997, Graf won at least one singles Grand Slam title.

Through all of Steffi’s years of playing, her father managed her tennis schedule. After willing 22 Grand Slam titles and being the number one female player for 7 years, Steffi finally retired in 1999.
