Amazon Prime’s highest rated series and the highest rated superhero show on TV. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boys<\/em> isn’t your typical superhero show. In fact, it’s the complete opposite. If you’re looking for a show with constant swearing, dark plots, and messed up scenes, then this is the show for you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are currently two seasons of The Boys<\/em>. Season 1 aired in the summer of 2019 and season 2 recently aired this year in September of 2020. After the release of season 1, the show received high ratings and tons of positive reviews from both critics and viewers because it involves a darker, more corrupt plot involving superheroes. The easiest way to describe this show would be to compare it to the movie Deadpool<\/em>, but it’s darker, more twisted, more graphic, and there is swearing in every other sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Season 1 starts out with Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) losing his girlfriend to an “accident” caused by the superhero known as A-Train (Jessie T. Usher). Wanting to seek revenge, Hughie gets roped into mayhem when stumbling upon Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) fighting against another ‘Supe’ who is a part of The Seven. While Hughie deals with the chaos that ensues, he realizes that he wants to take down ‘Supes’ with Butcher, Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Seven is a popular superhero group run by the company Vought that puts up an act making citizens believe that they safe and can rely on these superheroes. However, most of the ‘Supes’ are either corrupt, carrying baggage, or just putting up a front for the people. The head of The Seven and the most untouchable superhero is Homelander (Antony Starr). He runs the show and makes sure everything goes his way. He makes sure that everyone loves him and does what he says. There’s the Deep (Chace Crawford) who is very rude and ends up making crude gestures towards women. Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) keeps to himself and tends to go on solo assassinations. Queen Maeve (Dominque McElligot) is Homelander’s number two who desperately wants a life of her own. A-Train who deals in illegal serums that Vought is trying to keep secret. Translucent (Alex Hassell) who has a bad run in with Hughie and Butcher. And lastly the newest arrival, Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Starlight dreamt of joining The Seven since she was a kid, but realty hits and she realizes that the whole thing is a corrupt sham. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With season 2, we get to learn the backgrounds of Butcher, Frenchie, Mother’s Milk, and Homelander. The season is more chaotic than the last. There’s the introduction of a new addition to The Seven, Stormfront (Aya Rachel Cash). Homelander begins to lose his title as the leader and the hearts of citizens. More ‘Supes’ are introduced along with new threats to Hughie and the others as well as Vought. If you thought season 1 was insane, then you are in for a wild ride. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The show is rated TV-MA due to constant f-bombs, sex scenes, and very graphic deaths. The fights are always bloody and the show continues to out due itself in creative deaths caused by superheroes. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this to the faint of heart. However, the show explores a whole new perspective on how people view superheroes, and I will keep recommending this to others because I have already done this to many friends and family members and they thoroughly enjoy the show. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
