{"id":61,"date":"2017-04-11T01:16:21","date_gmt":"2017-04-11T01:16:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/saturdaysarugbyday\/?p=61"},"modified":"2017-04-11T01:18:50","modified_gmt":"2017-04-11T01:18:50","slug":"7s-rugby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/saturdaysarugbyday\/2017\/04\/11\/7s-rugby\/","title":{"rendered":"7&#8217;s Rugby"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are many differences between full 15&#8217;s rugby and 7&#8217;s, so I&#8217;m only going to go over the general gist of how the two differ.<\/p>\n<p>In 7&#8217;s, there are teams of 7 instead of 15, as the name suggests, as well as having 7 minute halves instead 40 minute halves. \u00a0This is mostly because its fewer players dealing with just as much space as full 15&#8217;s. \u00a0In the game, each team only has two props, a hook, a scrum half, a fly half, an inside center, and an outside center. \u00a0All other positions in 15&#8217;s are dropped.<\/p>\n<p>Rugby 7&#8217;s is what is currently played in the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Olympic Dreams - Carlin Isles &amp; USA Rugby 7s | Gillette World Sport\" width=\"660\" height=\"371\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HtpjpNkRGcY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Rugby 7&#8217;s is a faster-paced game and is more speed and passing the ball oriented than slowing down the game and crash with the ball oriented. \u00a0That, however, doesn&#8217;t mean don&#8217;t play smart rugby. \u00a0Look before passing the ball, tackle low, and ruck. \u00a0From my experience playing 7&#8217;s, most teams don&#8217;t ruck, so this is important in gaining and maintaining possession of the ball.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gBci5AH5N8g\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gBci5AH5N8g<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Take note of how quickly the ball is passed. \u00a0Rucks have one person in them when they form. \u00a0The scrum half passes it out faster than would happen in 15&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Getting in a solid, clean pass is still important. \u00a0Sloppiness can lead to knock-ons (where the ball is knocked forward during an attempted pass and causes a scrum) and dropped balls. \u00a0If a good pass cannot be completed and you don&#8217;t have anyone with you, it is OK to go down with the ball.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are many differences between full 15&#8217;s rugby and 7&#8217;s, so I&#8217;m only going to go over the general gist of how the two differ.
