{"id":59,"date":"2017-04-04T03:28:01","date_gmt":"2017-04-04T03:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/saturdaysarugbyday\/?p=59"},"modified":"2017-04-04T03:28:01","modified_gmt":"2017-04-04T03:28:01","slug":"80-minute-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/saturdaysarugbyday\/2017\/04\/04\/80-minute-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"80 Minute Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the exercises that my team does to get ready for competitive fall season is the 80 minute challenge. \u00a0It simulates the intensity of a full length game of running and tackling. \u00a0Within this challenge, different core strengthening exercises are performed to mimic the effort needed in tackling, rucking, and scrumming.<\/p>\n<p>This is the order I like to do the challenge in, but it can be switched up if need be.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>15 minutes running<\/li>\n<li>15 push ups<\/li>\n<li>15 sit ups<\/li>\n<li>10 minutes running<\/li>\n<li>5 up downs (also called burpees, where you jump up, jump down to push up position, then jump up again)<\/li>\n<li>30 second plank<\/li>\n<li>15 minutes running<\/li>\n<li>5 minute break<\/li>\n<li>15 minutes running<\/li>\n<li>15 push ups<\/li>\n<li>15 sit ups<\/li>\n<li>10 minutes running<\/li>\n<li>5 up downs<\/li>\n<li>30 second plank<\/li>\n<li>15 minutes running<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is called the 80 minute challenge because it includes 80 minutes of running. \u00a0Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to do this. \u00a0It took me about two hours to finish it.<\/p>\n<p>This is both a physically and mentally challenging challenge, and is best done with up beat music and an encouraging running buddy. \u00a0Being an endurance exercise, don&#8217;t worry about speed. \u00a0Many rugby players have difficulty completing this challenge, so feel free to take breaks when necessary. \u00a0Just make sure to stop the time when you do.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the exercises that my team does to get ready for competitive fall season is the 80 minute challenge. \u00a0It simulates the intensity of a full length game of running and tackling. \u00a0Within this challenge, different core strengthening exercises are performed to mimic the effort needed in tackling, rucking, and scrumming.
