UW-Whitewater Warhawks vs. DePauw Tigers DIII
Second Round NCAA Football Game
On November 29, The UW-Whitewater Warhawks faced the DePauw Tigers in a
NCAA DIII matchup for DIII football. This was the second time the Warhawks and
Tigers had ever faced each other in a playoff game. The last time the Warhawks played
DePauw was in 2021 at Perkins Stadium where the Warhawks won 45-0.
This matchup was a blizzard game, with snow falling all throughout the game.
This was one of the major factors for both coaches during the game and how they played.
Head coach for DePauw Brett Dietz said in an interview that the weather wasn’t was he
anticipated, but his team was ready for it and was able to adapt well to the conditions.
They had also gotten to Whitewater a day early for the game in anticipation of the
weather during that weekend. Head coach for the Warhawks Jace Rindahl said that he
was working with it as best as he could and so were his players. It was hard, but they
were making adjustments as they went. The game ended with a score of DePauw 26,
Whitewater 23.
I was also able to talk to Coach Rindahl for Inside Warhawk Football the
following Monday where we talked about the game and the loss. Coach said he was
disappointed with how the game ended, and that the loss stung. He also said the weather
had an impact with his playbook. Whitewater, who has a very strong run game, turned to
a throw game for the weather conditions, and Coach Rindahl said they succeeded with
that.
