Henry Jenkins on Participatory Culture: Big Thinkers
Blog assignment:
Within my blog, I share personal things, which is the main topic of all three videos. Blogs, Instagram, Snapchat, really any form or social media, we share personal experiences. We have opinions, we have thoughts, we have the urge to share them with the world and get feedback. We have the option to share what we feel and get response out of them. After the rise of the internet, we’ve had the choice to share everything on the internet. I, personally, have done so. Snapchat was one of my main forms of communication. I talked to my friends every day on it, and I posted basically my entire life on my private stories which I had select people on them. I shared what I thought about things, what I felt in that moment, and I even made vlogs for fun. In all these videos it talks about the rise of media, how it’s now not just main corporations running things, the audience now has a say in things too. Like in “Village Phone”, the public influenced the NYPD to switch a criminal case. That wasn’t a big corporation, it wasn’t a company or the government, it was the public.
