The Future of Social Media: Blending Platforms and Shifting Trends

The future of social media is going to look similar across some platforms. In the video, it said that not all social media platforms are the same, but by the looks of it now, they are becoming very similar. All social media platforms were originally created for different purposes, but over time they tend to offer the same features because those features are more appealing to consumers. I think in the future Instagram and TikTok will look very similar, especially since they already do today. I believe a mix of the two will be the next big thing. TikTok may come out with a major update, and sometime after, Instagram will likely implement a similar update into its app. They will still have their own unique features, but they probably won’t be too different for long.

Social media apps like LinkedIn and Facebook will likely stay mostly the same but improve in ways that make the most sense for their specific audiences. The topics in social media that feel “tired” to me would be Threads on Instagram. Not everyone has the app or wants to download another app just to enjoy social media. I think Reels and For You pages are “wired” on Instagram and TikTok because they continue to drive engagement and keep users scrolling.

To stay educated in this fast moving field, I will keep up with trends, pay attention to feedback to see what is working and what is not, and remain open and understanding of others needs.
