{"id":67,"date":"2018-03-21T10:33:41","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T16:33:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/nonprofit\/?p=67"},"modified":"2018-03-21T10:33:41","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T16:33:41","slug":"a-new-emphasis-on-nonprofit-management","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.uww.edu\/nonprofit\/2018\/03\/21\/a-new-emphasis-on-nonprofit-management\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Emphasis on Nonprofit Management"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that approximately ten percent of people employed in the United States work for a nonprofit organization?\u00a0 And that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/opub\/mlr\/2016\/article\/nonprofits-in-america.htm\">that number exceeds 12% here in Wisconsin<\/a>?\u00a0\u00a0That the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban.org\/research\/publication\/nonprofit-sector-brief-2015-public-charities-giving-and-volunteering\">nonprofit sector contributes more than $900 billion to the U.S. economy<\/a>?\u00a0\u00a0<strong><em>The nonprofit sector is a big deal!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting this fall (2018), General Management majors at UW-W CoBE can elect an emphasis in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cobe\/management\/nonprofit-and-nongovernmental-organizations\">Nonprofit Studies<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0The emphasis requires three courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Foundations in Nonprofit and Nongovernment Organizations (MGT 370) <\/strong>Our initial nonprofit management course examines the scope and impact of this growing sector, as well as its relationship to business and public sectors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Public Policy Analysis and Advocacy (POLISCI 330)<\/strong> Offers a systematic introduction to the study of public policy through an analytical problem-solving approach as well as examining other models and approaches across sectors.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cooperative\/Internship in Management (MGT 493)<\/strong> A practical internship course, offered as a constructed-supervised work experience within the major area of concentration of the student. The internship experience offers the student an opportunity to participate in day-to-day activity in nonprofits.
