Hansen Appointed New Director of the Institute for Nonprofit Management Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Institute for Nonprofit Management Studies welcomes new Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cobe\/cobe-directory\/profile?id=hansenru\">Dr. Ruth K. Hansen<\/a>, Assistant Professor of Management in the College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Dr. Hansen assumed the responsibilities of director in July 2022. Dr. Hansen earned her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 2018; her research focuses on the theory and practice of&nbsp;fundraising, stigma, and equity and inclusion in resource mobilization. She joined UW-Whitewater in 2016, teaching courses on nonprofit organizations, fundraising, organizational behavior, and research methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Hansen has more than 20 years\u2019 professional experience as a fundraiser, and is a former board member of the Chicago chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Recent publications include <a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/nvsm.1731\">\u201cApplying a stakeholder management approach to ethics in charitable fundraising,\u201d<\/a> published in the <em>Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing<\/em> and \u201cGary Neighborhood House: Managing mission and uncertainty in the Civil Rights era,\u201d in the edited volume <em><a href=\"https:\/\/iupress.org\/9780253064141\/hoosier-philanthropy\/\">Hoosier Philanthropy<\/a>,<\/em> due out this fall.\u00a0She contributed the chapter, \u201cTheory in Fundraising,\u201d to the new edition of \u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wiley.com\/en-us\/Achieving+Excellence+in+Fundraising,+5th+Edition-p-9781119763758\">Achieving Excellence in Fundraising<\/a><\/em>, \u00a0which was featured on Bill Stanczykiewicz\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/thefundraisingschool\/the-why-behind-the-how-in-fundraising\/s-yU4n5J7Vcg0?utm_source=clipboard&amp;utm_medium=text&amp;utm_campaign=social_sharing\"><em>First Day Podcast from The Fundraising School<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 Her research with Dr. Lauren Dula on fundraising appeal letters, supported by the AFP Foundation, was the subject of a recent article in <em>Successful Fundraising.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Institute for Nonprofit Management Studies thanks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cobe\/cobe-directory\/profile?id=bruntc\">Dr. Carol Brunt<\/a> &nbsp;for her service as the inaugural Director of the Institute from 2018-2022. During her tenure, UW-Whitewater developed new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cobe\/departments\/department-of-management\/nonprofit-management\">academic programs<\/a> for the study of nonprofit management. A scholar of international development and nonprofit management education programs, Dr. Brunt\u2019s knowledge and efforts have been instrumental in the development of the Institute for Nonprofit Management Studies.&nbsp; In addition to establishing new academic programs, other key accomplishments of the Institute have included visiting faculty speakers; cross-campus collaboration on Wisconsin-focused nonprofit sector research; annual Careers in Nonprofits events; and an internship program that supports student experiences in local nonprofit organizations. Dr. Brunt convened the core staff of the Institute, which also includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cobe\/cobe-directory\/profile?id=matthewm\">Megan Matthews<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uww.edu\/cobe\/cobe-directory\/profile?id=burtonk\">Kristen Burton<\/a>. Many thanks to Dr. Brunt for her dedicated service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located within UW-W CoBE\u2019s Department of Management, the Institute for Nonprofit Management Studies promotes the study and practice of nonprofit management at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and within the larger community.
